Topic: General Discussion / Diabetic Burnout

What are your target levels? I see a 10.5 in green, and a 6.9 in blue which suggests that you have much higher targets than DAFNE recommends. For instance, for myself, my targets most of the time are between 4.5 and 7.5 so in my diary, anything below 4.5 would be blue, between 4.5 and 7.5, green, and above 7.5, red.

If you need one-on-one help, I'd suggest talking to http://integrateddiabetes.com/ as they would likely be very helpful. It is a service with a cost though.

All of your levels look higher than I would want myself, so my suggestion is to increase your BI by 2 units, and seeing what that does over a period of three days or so. Monitor a little more regularly for hypos following the increase in BI and let us know how you go.

I think I may have to up the Levemir to 20 instead of 19 and see how that goes, I just didn't really want to up it because the diabetic nurse thinks I'm on to much insulin for my body weight but maybe I need a little bit more than they think.

Here are my last lot of BGs. I'm still going through this burnout. I'm suffering with stress due to house moving. I really need encouragement

I had similar problems and my diabetes nurse advised me to increase my evening Levemir by 2 units and that seems to have sorted me out.
I think there are changes going on in our bodies all the time, so things are bound to go awry occasionally.

Hi

I'm on levemir and on split doses, when I did the dafne course I started on 7 in the morning and 12 at night then had to go up to 6 in the morning and 13 at night, I'm currently trying 5 in the morning and 14 at night and will see how that goes.

Hi

I have tested through the night and don't seem to be having hypos and it Doesn't seem to be dawn phenomenon as they raise any time during the night. I think I just need to get the split dose right as I don't really want to up the BI as I find this drops me during the day, it's just so frustrating!

Have you tested during the night? I did the DAFNE course in 2007, and a lot of effort was put into getting BI right - including testing during the night. I still do this if I think my BI needs adjusting (it used to be really tedious, but now as I get older waking up during the night seems to be an increasingly common occurrence).

Sometimes a high morning BG can be an indicator of a night-time hypo, or be a result of the dawn phenomenon. A few "during the night" tests will help to clarify whether it is either of these, or whether it is "simply" (as if anything is ever simple!) bodily changes requiring more BI.

Topic: General Discussion / high bm can't get under control

Have you tested your basal rate?
Also, If I remember correctly a high on waking could be a sign if hypo through the night, may be worth doing some 3am tests.

I would do some basal testing over about 3-4 days to see if that is a cause of the highs and if not then would only increase ratio by 0.5...so a 1.5:1 ratio.

You may also need different ratios for throughout day, but again these would need individual testing. Remember only to change one thing at a time and leave for a few days to check for patterns, it also takes a good few days for lantus changes to show.

If you share your diary it will be easier for us to see trends and maybe make suggestions. Remember exercise can put bm up due to the adrenaline.
What are your current ratios? Are the highs before meals or after etc...your diary should show all this x

Topic: General Discussion / Diasend

I have the omnipod pump that I use with diasend, I have a cable that attaches to my PDM so I can download it. Not sure if diasend works for other meters? I know my optium won't.
