+1 for the Road ID. I have had once since a few weeks after my diagnosis in 2010 and it is always on me. The straps last ages, usually a couple of years at least.

My son is an ambo and he tells me they always check the (mobile) phone (any mobile phone) as lots of information available especially with numbers listed as: HOME, WORK, GP as well as ICE.

I was reading on here that someone had had a Tattoo done - to tell/inform first responders of their condition - and I thought that was a good idea, and I wished I was brave enough to do it, and then on another thread, someone else was using the RoadId wrist bracelet.

Over the years I have had a few of these things - but looking at the Road Id site, I thought they were very good - and so ordered a bracelet with:

my 'name',
'wifes details',
'GP surgery',
'Diabetic Type 1',
'No 'Morphine' and
'metal plates in my leg'

etched onto a tag. All good info to give, and then I saw they did an App - IoS and Android.

The App is free - which is great, and it provides ICE info on the lock screen - again useful.

So I wondered - what other good ICE things there were out there - I'm sure there are lots, and as T1 we ought to be able to inform first responders, and so collectively we should be pulling all these things together to allow other forum members to take their pick.

There must be quite a few products out there for people to choose from.

Thanks for that Mark - I'm relieved to find it wasn't anything I was doing wrong. It seems a bit pointless to me, because I've got round it by Copying the document and then Pasting it on to a Word document, which I can then print.

Nothing, I'm afraid we were forced to disable printing of the course handbook by the DAFNE programme team. It was made part of us being allowed to have the handbooks on the site. If you don't agree with this you need to contact [email protected] and ask them for an explanation. Its a bit of a political situation that hopefully will be learned from in the new DAFNEplus coming in the next year or so. They want to make that much more online.

Topic: General Discussion / Graphs recording snack entries as 0 BG

Hi there, I've started using the app this week and am looking at what it can do. I've been recording snacks as diary entries for the CPs, but they're appearing on my graphs as a reading of zero, when actually there was no reading given at all. Logically, they shouldn't be included as a data point. Am I missing something? It looks like I've died several times this week and it's only Thursday ;)

The School of Health and Related Research (ScHARR) at the University of Sheffield are conducting some research to explore how important it is to people with diabetes that they can manage their diabetes well. They have designed a questionnaire to measure how managing diabetes impacts upon people and are looking for volunteers to complete the questionnaire. It takes about 10 minutes and can be found here. The link contains further details of the research and the process being followed. To quote one of the researchers "studies like this are important as knowing information like this can help policy-makers and clinicians to decide how best to allocate health care, and provide better health services for people with diabetes."

Anyone with diabetes living in the UK can complete the survey, and for each 50 participants there is the chance to win Â£50 in shopping vouchers.

In most supermarkets they sell Burgen linseed bread, it's low GI from what I'm told and it's 11g a slice. It's really nice.

What app version are you using? The iPhone version is the only one that only gets updates at this time. I personally use the Android version so cannot help with the iPhone one.

Are your BGs set up to automatic upload in the settings, and are your login details correct?

There are sometimes times where the servers that they upload the diary results to don't work, but that is not common.
I think you will lose the BG results if you do not get them uploaded to the DAFNE Online server before removing the app.

The main time I've found when the app changes the date is when it's getting close to midnight and I want to add an entry that was earlier in the day so sometimes I have to correct it back to the correct date after I posted the entry so it's right. The other reason it might happen is because the DAFNE Online servers are in an American time zone and sometimes the server gets conflicted so fails to upload. They can be uploaded at a later time though (I usually upload them in the morning with my waking BG result).

If it continues to be a problem, it may be worth sticking to the mobile website to upload diary entries on the go (if you have a net connection though your phone on the go).

You should discuss this with your diabetes nurse or doctor. When you go on the DAFNE course, you are assigned a ratio of quick-acting insulin to carbohydrates (expressed in 10 gram potions). My ratio is 1.5 units of insulin to 1 10g portion. So if the meal contains 60g of carbs, I inject 9 units of my quick-acting insulin. Other ratios may be assigned - Like 1:1 or 2:1
.
CP stands for Carbohydrate Portions, QA stands for Quick-Acting (insulin), BI is Backgroung Insulin (like Lantus). BG is Blood Glucose

You should press your GP to get you on to a DAFNE course, where everything (including carb counting) is explained properly.

Might be good news for youngsters further down the road, but I imagine it'll take a lot of years to research side effects of fiddling with the immune system. At my age, 57, there would be no advantages and too much risk. My cousins are excited about the miracle cure headlines, and since we've got it in the family I can see why, but I'd rather have them all enrol in a DAFNE course and take charge for themselves while the boffins do their thing. Quick fix notions tend to divert people's attention from what's really needed.

Ok, so ive never done a dafne course but am interested in carbohydrate counting. Im currently on novorapid and lantus of an evening. I heard that you inject 1 unit per 2 carbohydrates is that correct?

Also can people explain what the abbreviations are in the forums, eg cp... thank you.

Sorry if i sound uneducated. I want to better myself but putting it off for so long

Hi, my DAFNE app on my phone isn't working properly, never had this problem before? It isn't loading my bgs and won't except new ones, or if it does it changes it to a different date? I've checked to see if it needs an update, but nothing shows up?
If I delete and reload the app will I loose all my previous bgs? (As I don't want to loose them)
Any ideas??

As a child (in early 90s, so hopefully better now?) I broke my arm, rushed to hospital as expected. With stress and cortisol etc... my BG was 17, first thing nurses and docs did was put me on a glucose drip! They couldn't get my BG down after that for ages!
