Topic: General Discussion / Android App Just wanted to day a big thankyou for developing this Android app. I have been struggling for the last few years with recording my entries in a paper diary. Just doesn't seem to work for me. I keep losing the diary, no pen, difficulty carrying everything etc. I always have my HTC Desire HD with me and it is so easy to use this app. My life is transformed! Thanks! |

Topic: DAFNE Online Mobile / Iphone - contract or pay as you go I use the iPod option and when you do not have access to the internet a warning will appear but you can manually download the readings when the internet access is available as mentioned above.I have experienced several problems using the App and at times the App closes down for no reason. With the costs of either an iPod or Smartphone (iPhone or Android) I don't know personally if it is worth investing in just to use an App to record BG readings. |

Topic: General Discussion / Chocolates - Help! I'd agree that if it is part of the meal, or within an hour of the meal, include it in injection covering the meal.If you inject for the chocolates I would also suggest you should be wary depending on what your current ratio is as I have found that a quick acting Carbohydrate like chocolate burns off quicker and therefore if you are using a higher ratio the insulin could result in a Hypo as it is still working after the chocolate has been absorbed. |

Topic: General Discussion / Chocolates - Help! I would pick my desired number of chocolates, work out the carb content, and if possible have them after a meal, so I could include them in my meal injection. However, if it was between meals I would just inject separately, taking note at my next meal that I might not be on target and that I dont need to correct my BG...... Happy belated birthday, hope you had a great day..... ![]() |

Topic: DAFNE Online Mobile / Iphone - contract or pay as you go I like the ipod option, although I've also considered an android phone now the app is available for android. I've not decided which to go for yet myself, but if you did want a phone Mags maybe an android one would be cheaper.... |

Topic: DAFNE Online Mobile / Iphone - contract or pay as you go Do you actually need an iphone though ? From what you say you don't need to make calls or texts so you don't really need the 'phone' function, So the crucial factor is do you want to be able to use it 'on the move'. If you are happy to just use it at home or with range of a WiFi hotspot then you could get an ipod touch rather than an iphone, this will run the app quite happily. The only difference between an ipod touch and an iphone is the 'phone' part the rest is all the same. The advantage of an iphone is it would let you use the 'app' where ever there is a phone signal. If you don't need it to be this mobile then you can use an ipod touch. As far as I am aware you can even add entries in the app on an ipod touch when out and then upload them when you get home and in range of your home broadband. |

Topic: General Discussion / Chocolates - Help! I know, I know, I'm going to get into trouble for this but... Your female and you say just eat 2 !! IS that possible ? surely you will eat the whole box![]() Being slightly more serious, it depends on what they have in them and what CP value they have. Chocolate has fat in so not rapidly processed by the body, although still probably quite a quick sugar fix that goes in and out of your system. I would most likely have a couple with a 1:1 ratio of insulin to their carb value and then if I found I was high either have a bit more insulin or more chocolate to get the balance right. There is no right or wrong answer it depends on you and how you process the chocolate. the main thing is enjoy it !! We don't have to deny ourselves in the quest for perfect BG's otherwise life would be too dull to bother with. Just learn from how the chocolate affects you so you know how to cope with it better the next time. Oh and Happy Birthday ![]() |

Topic: DAFNE Online Mobile / Iphone - contract or pay as you go Depending on what network you go with, paying £1 a day for internet would come with a maximum amount of data transfer, say 10Megabytes a day..............this would be more than enough to accommodate the data going back and forth on the DAFNE app, which is only the downloading and uploading of readings, which as you say can be done at home were your wireless is available........ So if you have the money to buy the handset outright, then pay as you go is fine...........once you have set up the phone to connect to your router, it will do so automatically if your wireless is turned on on both the the iPhone and house.......so you dont need to worry about connecting by GPRS, however, even if you did, the DATA moved back and forth would never exceed any limit put in place for your charge of 1 pound, which you will be paying regardless of whether your online or not.......... |

Topic: DAFNE Online Mobile / Iphone - contract or pay as you go I have decided I want an iphone so I can use the DAFNE app. The dilemma is that I would need to pay a minimum of £26 a month plus £300 for the phone. There is an option to buy a older model for £400. As I hardly make any call and don't have enough friends to bother with Texts (aw poor me) I quite like the 2nd option. The question is how much do I need to connect to the internet with the DAFNE app? The pay as you go option charges £1 per day to connect to the internet, but offers WiFi so I could presumably download at home for free? This falls apart if it connects by itself to the internet and charges me £1 per day for the privilege. Please help - Contract or Pay as you go? Mags ![]() |

Topic: General Discussion / zumba :) Its a tricky one this exercise business..........If you have carbs and the corresponding insulin in your system at the time of the exercise, you would expect the glucose in your blood stream to be utilized then your muscles would start using their supplies to fuel themselves........ Does this fuel store from the muscle have to enter the blood stream? Is it used directly, therefore eliminating the need for insulin? If you have eaten your meal, would you still not need the unadjusted dose of QA to allow the glucose from the meal pass through into the cells? So why a reduction before the activity.......? I really dont have a clue to be honest.............!! ![]() |

Topic: General Discussion / Carbs & Cals Books? As well as referring to the DAFNE Carb book, I have a separate book (I use an old Filofax book) to record meals. I have a section for breakfasts in which I record the different breakfasts I have, with the details of the various items in that meal and their carbs. I also record (in pencil) the insulin dosage I gave myself. So when I test my BG afterwards, I can see how good my calculation was and if necessary, change the insulin dosage for that meal.I also have sections in the book for Lunches and Dinners. As an example, I haved Dinner07 down as: Rice 4.5 CPs Beef Goulash 2.5 CPs Plain Yogurt 1 CP Grapes 1 CP TOTAL 9 CPs and therefore (for me) an insulin dosage of 18 QA I find this book very useful (providing I keep it up-to-date). |

Topic: Site Development / Displayed View of BG Diary and End of Day special setting Hi SimonThat is actually what I did setting my end of day as 2am. So I was expecting any entry up to that time to be treated as belonging to the previous day when filtering displays from day x to day y. At the moment diary displays start with one entry for midnight to 2am and then full day entries after that. Thinking about it now - may be it is better to leave it as it is as one does want to know what the previous day's bedtime BG / BI etc when looking at the start of day numbers regards simon |

Topic: General Discussion / Carbs & Cals Books? The book is useful for me for working out the carbs for foods that have no nutrition info on the packaging and are mentioned in this book and not covered by the DAFNE Carbohydrate Portion List booklet. I appear to be very sensitive to insulin and fearing hypos I try to get as close to the actual CP estimate as possible. Also my guestimates do not work very well as I am often way out after eating out. Hopefully in time this will improve but my insulin sensitivity may take a while to change. The Carbs & Cals book is also easy to use by members of the family with all its visual content. Just got the iPhone version of the book as that gives all updates for free. |
