Topic: Questions for HCPs / Kidney Problems? Hi Simon,One of our DAFNE Educators in Australia has put together a brief answer for you (see below), along with a link for some further information. I hope it helps!! Cheers, Susan eGFR or Estimated Glomerular Filtration Rate is the recommended measurement of kidney function along with other pathology tests. Normal eGFR is considered >90L/min. If a person has an eGFR between 60-90L/min indicates mild loss of kidney function. Kidney Health Australia has an excellent summary, check out this link: http://www.kidney.org.au/LinkClick.aspx?fileticket=zuqknF0StcY=&tabid=609&mid=850 Possibility of referral to a kidney specialist is something that your endocrinologist may have discussed with you but if not you may wish to make further enquiry. A review with your doctor would be recommended to discuss further management strategies. |

Topic: General Discussion / Unwanted Insulin Thank you Heather,I have quite a lot of redundant insulin here and it has been concerning me that simply returning it to the pharmacy would result in its being thrown away. This is great news! |

Topic: General Discussion / Unwanted Insulin Hello,You've probably heard about this already, but I just found out about The Insulin Dependent Diabetes Trust (IDDT) the other day when I had my background insulin type changed at the clinic (I've been changed from Insulatard to Levemir- fingers crossed it works out better for me) and I mentioned that I had a full packet of my old insulin in the fridge that would now just need to be thrown out. I was told to put the insulin in a jiffy bag and sent it to the IDDT at the address below as they put the unwanted insulin to really good use instead of it just adding to landfill. There's more information on their website (http://www.iddt.org/here-to-help/helping-developing-countries/)and below. I thought I'd let you know about it in case you've just had an insulin change and your unwanted insulin could be used to save lives instead of being thrown out. Have you any unwanted, in-date insulin in your fridge? IDDT is the UK arm of an Australian organisation, ‘Insulin for Life’ [IFL]. IFL is a not-for-profit organisation which collects unwanted, unopened, in-date insulin and test strips to send to developing countries as part of a humanitarian aid programme. Please help if you can by sending supplies in a ‘jiffy bag’ or box to: Insulin Dependent Diabetes Trust PO Box 294 Northampton NN1 4XS tel: 01604 622837 fax: 01604 622838 e-mail: [email protected] |

Hi. Silly question but how do you delete an entry in the android app? I put in the wrong time so now I have the same entry twice on the same date. Otherwise I love the app. If this is a completely stupid question have a good laugh at me and then please post the completely obvious answer. My fingers are sore from poking at my phone (on top of blood testing wounds!). Moflaherty |

I would say they would be useful, at least as an additional aid in determining carb values amongst others............... |

Topic: General Discussion / New to DAFNE Congratulations on your DAFNE graduation.....As long as you get into the habit or writing things downs you cant go wrong............the carb counting element of it all will improve in time and you will be able to fine tune the counting to suit your own personal needs as you observe how different food affect you........... With regards to eating out, I always see this as a treat and so getting the count perfect is not a high priority. Taking time out of your normal strict diabetic regime from time to time is necessary in my opinion. But to help you out you could see about getting the Carbs and Cals book. I recently got this on a whim, but it is really useful for the times when you are eating out, as you can confidently estimate the amount of carbs in your food. Check it out HERE............. Welcome to the forum............ ![]() |

Topic: DAFNE Online Mobile / Android app Harry,There is a known bug that is fixed in the latest version (1.1.274 that you should get an automatic prompt to update to) relating to QA or BG or CP values of the form "+2" or "-1" where the app crashes on a manual upload. That may be the problem you are seeing rather than a problem relating to the upload period. So please try the new version of the app. Keith |

Topic: Carbohydrate Counting / Carb Calculating Scales I have something called Nutriscales, which I got from Lloyd's Pharmacy. They work very well for me and seem to give accurate results. You have to weigh the food on the scales and then enter a 3 digit code for the food, which you look up in the User Manual. You then select the nutritional values of the item - you can choose Carbs, Fat, Protein, Cholesterol or Sodium and it displays the value for you. Good value at £14.99.It's available on their website if you're interested - http://www.lloydspharmacy.com/en/nutritional-scales-17928 |

Topic: General Discussion / New to DAFNE Thank you for the welcome and the advice.Your story is actually very encouraging - eating out is understandably tricky, I guess it's just something that will come with time. I don't drink so that definitely makes things a little easier - alcohol is a strange one! Again, thank you. I'm looking forward to this =) |

Topic: General Discussion / New to DAFNE Naz,Congratulations and I hope that it works as well for you as it did me. My blood sugars are now a lot better controlled and the last Ha1bc result I had was down to 6.9 I still struggle with eating out and alcohol is difficult to calculate but overall it has been very good. You need to include CP for additional foods like Sauces (Ketchup, Salad Cream, etc) and you need to include some Vegetables (Broccoli, Peas, etc) when calculating the QA. Hopefully it will work for you. |

Topic: Carbohydrate Counting / Carb Calculating Scales I'm interested in purchasing scales which tell you the nutrition values of your food.A fellow student on the DAFNE course had some by Rosemary Conley and she loved them. Does anyone else have experiences with them or any others? Are the nutritional values accurate? Would love to hear what you think before I make the purchase. |
