Hello all!
I just did the DAFNE course and loved it. I honestly can't say enough about how good I found it. I just hope I can stick to all the guidelines with no problems.
I would love to hear any advice from you - as a beginner, I could do with all the help I can get!

Naz,
Congratulations and I hope that it works as well for you as it did me. My blood sugars are now a lot better controlled and the last Ha1bc result I had was down to 6.9
I still struggle with eating out and alcohol is difficult to calculate but overall it has been very good. You need to include CP for additional foods like Sauces (Ketchup, Salad Cream, etc) and you need to include some Vegetables (Broccoli, Peas, etc) when calculating the QA.
Hopefully it will work for you.

Thank you for the welcome and the advice.
Your story is actually very encouraging - eating out is understandably tricky, I guess it's just something that will come with time. I don't drink so that definitely makes things a little easier - alcohol is a strange one!
Again, thank you.
I'm looking forward to this =)

Congratulations on your DAFNE graduation.....
As long as you get into the habit or writing things downs you cant go wrong............the carb counting element of it all will improve in time and you will be able to fine tune the counting to suit your own personal needs as you observe how different food affect you...........
With regards to eating out, I always see this as a treat and so getting the count perfect is not a high priority. Taking time out of your normal strict diabetic regime from time to time is necessary in my opinion. But to help you out you could see about getting the Carbs and Cals book. I recently got this on a whim, but it is really useful for the times when you are eating out, as you can confidently estimate the amount of carbs in your food. Check it out HERE.............
Welcome to the forum............
