Topic: Site Development / Auto calculate QA from BG - let's get it right I'm pretty much cracked this for the iPhone app - just need some help with some test data to make sure that it's working properly... Here's where you all come in!If you want to help with some test data, all I need is a table with the following inputs, and expected corrective input:
If you do want to help then please email a spreadsheet or similar with the above info to [email protected] |

Topic: DAFNE Online Mobile / QA Calc Problem + Related enhancment requests Hi Rich,Thanks for your feedback. 1 should be pretty easy to add/fix so will work on that first. 2 is a bit more in depth so will take longer to do, but I'll put it on the (ever growing) to do list. Cheers, Simon |

Topic: General Discussion / Exercise and high BG When lifting weights and doing activity that requires large amounts of energy and quickly the muscles will actually use their own stores of energy, and then suck it back in from the blood stream afterwards........so the body doesn't release carbs as such but glucose from the muscle stores and obviously the liver..... |

Topic: General Discussion / Exercise and high BG Oh and do not correct it as your body is likely to go into a hypo ! Circuit training is similar to the kind of trainIng I do , depending on what ever time you exercise at there's ways around it |

Topic: General Discussion / Exercise and high BG I know why you get this, it is because when exercising the body releases carbs etc to help feed the muscle you are using during the exercise but it will I ly work if if you have insulin in your blood as the insulin acts as a key in this process. So lie no man bag says take some maybe an hour or two beforehand so that the carb released during exercise is allowed to do its job and feed the muscle, once you master this you will notice a huge improvement in your performance! This was one of the main reasons I did the Dafne course. I am a mixed martial artist and would go home after every training session with high blood sugar then during the night it would almost always crash towards a hypo( due to me taking insulin cause I though that was the right thing to do) . In all honesty Dafne did not cover the long period sof high impact exercise I participate in but trial and error with the knowledge I got from the diatitian etc. hope this helps, oh and even if it's background insulin you take a couple of hours before as long as there's some insulin that's maybe only be injected an hour or two before hand to unlock the the body's system , with out the insulin the the muscles do not get what's needed and you end up having high blood sugar peace! |

Topic: General Discussion / Accu-Chek Aviva Expert Meters Hi, I must point out that I do have an "Expert meter" and the concept is a truly great thing. BUT I cannot stress enough the importance of this item being correctly set up from the beginning. My one gives me some strange bolus advice even during what should be a hypo! the time blocks were verified by my Dafne course leader and inputted by the Roche representative. I also have the verified information with the box the meter kit arrives in. Not sure how some of the bolus advice is calculated, so I now use this meter purely for glucose testing and nothing else until I can get the settings checked and revised if needed.![]() |

Topic: General Discussion / Exercise and high BG Yes, same puzzle for me too. Normally exercising e.g. running, cycling will lower my blood glucose quite predictably. But when I play 90 minutes of football, same distance of running as a jog BTW, my blood glucose goes in the opposite direction and I end up at 15 or 16! Only solution I've found is to to eat and take QA insulin approx 2 hours before football, leaving just some of the insulin left over for during football. I'd be scared to take QA straight before a game. I think high intensity exercise, stop start etc, raises blood sugar, whereas long steady exercise like jogging lowers it. Anyone else find this? |

Topic: General Discussion / Night time cycle ride. hey mate - neat to hear your ride went well. I do think, though, that any cyclist would be mortified about the lack of fluid but sounds as if everything went really well. I had a laugh about your creamed rice comment. We dont do school dinners here in NZ (Jamie Oliver would be so pleased!) so i only have fond memories of it. All the best for your next challenge.-Jen- ![]() |

Topic: General Discussion / Night time cycle ride. Thanks for all the help. Did the ride Saturday night and all went well. Heaped on the carbs all day Saturday with jacket potato and macaroni pie. didn't take any background insulin Saturday night. Checked blood every 20kms or so. Maintained a level of around 9, which I was very happy with. Hardly drank at all, less than 1 bottle of water and no Coka Cola - which was my sugar rush - ate a sandwich half way around and a couple of high carb energy bars which were brilliant. Great sense of pride having finished, 105kms, total riding time 5hrs 55 mins and £2,000 for Breakthrough Breast Cancer. Always worried about exercise but no more. |
