Hi

My partner found an app for me called Insulin Dose Calculator (G C E =). It cost just over a £. I have found this a useful tool. Its been handly to carry around with me. You simply set your correction factor, carb factor, target glucose. Its gives you accurate insulin to take and bears in mind any exercise, none light or heavy you may then think about undertaking. Its helped me to lower my blood sugars without going to low.

Hi all,

Well the DAFNE Online iPhone app is ready - however we've hit a small problem. The DAFNE Central team aren't keen on releasing the carb list in 'app' form without users paying for it. We're campaigning for it to be a free app, and whether we will be allowed to distribute the carbs list in an app for free will be decided at a DAFNE Executive meeting on 30th September.

As we don't want to keep you waiting for another 2 months or more - I'd like to get your opinion on the best course of action.

As it stands we could release the app, which allows you to enter and view your DAFNE Diary entries, as well as uploading these entries to your DAFNE Online account so that you can view them in graphical form and share with other users. You can also specify your own targets within the app, and BG results are colour coded according to those targets. Although the carbs list is implemented, we would have to lock it out and simply provide a link to the online carbs list we have here, until the DAFNE Executive make their decision.

Option two - we can wait until after september 30th for a decision from the DAFNE Executive as to whether the carbs list can be in a free version of the app. If the answer is no, we will create two versions of the app - one a paid for version containing the carbs list on your iPhone, the other without the carbs list, but for free.

Apologies for the complication - it is out of our hands at the moment, however your opinions on the above options would be gratefully received.

Answers on a postcard please (or just reply to this topic ;) )

Hi

Do you have an idea of a price?

Not for me, thank you. Not certain what an app is, or where I find one, or what I do with it.

Off to get back into my cardboard box!

Hi Karl,

Not sure on price as yet... As I say we (the DAFNE Online team) would like to keep it free if at all possible.

Simon

Could you release now and if they allow you later, do it as an update - if they don't you could submit it as a different version - a lite version (free) full version (pay)

Hi Simon,

It would be really useful if we could have an app sooner rather than later, with or without the carb list. If, come Septmeber, you can include the carb list in the free app that would be terrific, but if not at least the free app will already be up and running.

Greatly appreciate all your hard work in this, I can't wait to have an app on my iPhone to record my DAFNE diary :-D

Laura.

Dear Simon.

Keep up the good work buddy.
Some excellent ides and bringing the DAFNE carb info and diary into the 21st century is since long needed and lifestyle changing for many of us. In terms of paying for app. It would be nice to carry on with the ethos of all being free and I would advocate that, however the app with its freedom, functionality, and end to guessing carbs when eating out is also well worth a couple of quid to me.

Yes keep up the good work. I guess eventually there probably will be a free carb list with an Iphone or Ipad Application that allows this all to take place in an automated way, without hassle. That will be good for everyone.

Its interesting though to understand the reasoning behind paid Health Care professionals, funded by the NHS, who think its a reasonable idea to try and charge for something like a carboydrate list isn't it? Sorry to be so abrupt about it, but the logic fails me, I'm afraid. I guess if the list needs to be continually maintained - and this entails a lot of work, I can see the logic perhaps.

Hi all, you can now get the DAFNE Online iPhone app from the App store. Search for 'DAFNE' on the store or click this link.

As always, let us know via the forums or contact us section if there is anything you would like adding to the app, or if you find any bugs in it.
