Hi All,
I am a diabetes specialist dietitian working at Kings College Hospital in London.
I have been working on a new IPhone app. which will be out in around 1 month (May 2010). This will be based on a new book coming out on the 29th March and will feature over 1200 food photographs of different portions of food and drink and include a range of meals and take-away food. Other features will include an insulin calculator, calendar function to store previous day’s intake and also the ability to add in your own data. Details about this and the book can be found at www.carbsandcals.com

Hi ccheyette,
I have just pre-ordered the book! I can't wait for the iphone application. I had already heard about the book on diabetes.org facebook site. People that am I friends with have shown a lot of interest. We all have children with Type 1. Quite a few are on pumps and carb counting. Claudia is 9 , she weighs her own food and carb counts a lot on her own (we check). I think the book will help her become even more independant and help her with more complex foods.
Best wishes & thanks

Hi Chris,
Will give you feed back with pleasure. I have 5 daughters 1 with Type 1 Diabetes & Coeliacs and another with Coeliacs. Life is a challenge on occasions. Will pass the book onto our Dietician & Team if they haven't already purchased one. I am attending my local group on Staurday will promote it there, along with Dafne online which few people seem to be aware of.
Best wishes

Chris, I don't necessarily object to you using our site to advertise your book and application, but please make clear it is nothing to do with DAFNE. Chris according to the website mentioned leads BERTIE which is another Diabetes Structured education course. This means although he is a Dietican he is not a DAFNE Dietician. You don't say how much your app will cost ?
The DAFNE Online one when Simon completes it, I'm sure will be free. Not to discourage people getting yours, but hey its our site we should be able to advertise as well ;-)

Hi All,
I know that this is a thread for an iPhone app, but it would be great if the same also existed for Windows Mobile...
Any ideas suggestions for any software that incorporate (i) DAFNE calculation of Carb portion list and/or (ii) DAFNE diary (ideally by downloading readings from the meter)?
Best wishes, Harry

given the time, we would like to develop something however I suspect its not going to happen in the near future unless someone volunteers to do it. I do have a windows mobile phone ( although I'm afraid windows mobile 6.1 drove me to the iphone which I am now in love with) and I thing the visual studio 2010 beta will let me do something for that platform. If I get time, othwerwise I can't afford a full copy of visual studio, the software needed to develop for windows mobile. I will let you know if we do develop anything.

Thanks marke!
I am a new DAFNE graduate and I would rather keep records on my WM device (instead of the printed DAFNE diaries...). Plus, I would love to have the carb calculation available in my WM device as well.
I had a bit of search around and I think that for now I'll opt for the DiabetesPilot <http://www.diabetespilot.com> which offers solutions for a variety of platforms. Does anyone have any impression on that?
I've also downloaded a pdf file of the carb lists in my device, so that would probably keep me going for now (until I find a DAFNE WM programme or decide to go to iPhone myself!).
Cheers, Harry

Are there any updates on apps at all? I just got my iPhone this week, and I'd love to be able to keep track with an app. All the ones I've found seem to be a bit too American and don't record in m/mmol. I'm particularly interested in your app, Simon!

Hi Jenna/all
I'm currently finishing the first cut of the DAFNE Online iPhone app. It's pretty much done, with the following functionality:
Searchable DAFNE CP List split into categories Blood Glucose Diary with the ability to specify your own targets for each entry type Upload your BG diary to the DAFNE Online site so you can view Graphs, etc
I'm currently finishing off the upload functionality and that should be done in the next couple of weeks. We're also working with DAFNE Central to get hold of the latest CP list so that we can incorporate this into the app. There are a few issues there that we're trying to iron out - will keep you updated on progress on that.
When the above two points are resolved the app will be ready, and after it's checked by apple should be available on the App store. All in all I think it should be done in a month or so.
