Topic: Questions for HCPs / Insulin out of the fridge I spoke with the pharmacist today and she told me that if they dispense the prescription in advance of collection, then the insulin is packaged separately and put back in the fridge. If the prescription is for home-delivery, they wait unril the delivery-driver is there then dispense it with the tablets in one bag and it arrives within 45 minutes. That seems OK to me. |

Topic: Questions for HCPs / Insulin out of the fridge Thanks Mstarosta, but had to go to ny GP (my doctor) on another matter and I told her about this. She was of the opinion 'better safe than sorry' and told me to ditch the insulin and she prescribed a replacement. I did feel rather guilty scrapping 3 boxes of Humalog -I've no idea how much that cost the NHS. When I used to go to the pharmacy myself to collect a prescription, the insulin was always packaged separately and kept in the fridge and there was a sticker on the bag containing pills etc to indicate that part of the prescription was in the fridge. I will speak to the pharmacy as you suggest, to make sure they know that insulin should be kept in the fridge.I would have thought that any pharmacist should have already known this. I want to know if it would be within my rights to reject any insulin which had not been refridgerated. |

Topic: Questions for HCPs / Insulin out of the fridge I always get my prescriptions dispensed at the local Lloyd's Pharmacy. Because of my mobility problems, they now deliver the prescriptions to me at home. The last time I had insulin prescribed it came in a large paper bag along with all my other tablets. I had forgotten that I had requested insulin (memory problems as well!) and I left the bag unopened for a couple of days. When I opened the bag I immediately put the insulin in the fridge. My first question is - will that insulin be OK to use? Secondly, would I have been able to refuse that Insulin, on the grounds that it should have been refridgerated? |

Topic: Site Development / Diary changes SimonI use a bog-standard PC to enter my readings - no real problems, but the CP box could be lengthened slightly to accommodate (say) 0+2.5. The Site boxes only show the first 3 letters (not a real problem), but the Type box only shows the first letter - so with B, your not sure if you've got Before Lunch or before Dinner. Perhaps the Date and Time boxes could be shortened. Alan |

Topic: General Discussion / ManageBGL I've had an email from ManageBGL which welcomed me to their system. I have never heard of it before and certainly haven't signed-up to it. I Googled it and it is a diabetes management system. Has anybody else heard of it or signed-up to it? If so, what do you think of it? |

Topic: General Discussion / washing hands ? I always wash my hands before testing, but if I'm out somewhere where I can't, I use Accu-Chek sterile cleansing hand wipes. They are small and come in foil packs that easily fit in my meter case. They are specifically made for cleansing before finger- pricking. You can get them online at Boots. |

Topic: Questions for HCPs / A Good Night's Sleep I cut a Nytol 'One a night' tablet in half and take that - it works for me. If it doesn't work for you, you could take the whole tablet. |

Topic: General Discussion / insulin I had similar problems and my diabetes nurse advised me to increase my evening Levemir by 2 units and that seems to have sorted me out.I think there are changes going on in our bodies all the time, so things are bound to go awry occasionally. |

Topic: General Discussion / Diasend I made a half-hearted attempt to use it, but it seems you have to download your BG readings directly from your meter. I don't think my meter can do that. Any guidance would be appreciated. |

Topic: General Discussion / Sleeping tablets I've been having trouble sleeping for quite a while and started taking Nytol tablets - which were a great help. The leaflet that comes with them states that they may become less effective if taken continuously, so I went to my GP, hoping to get prescribed sleeping tablets. She was very reluctant to do this and suggested I continue with the Nytol.I wonder whether her reluctance was because there was a possibility that I could have a bad hypo at night and, because of the sleeping tablets she had prescribed, sleep through it - with dire consequences. Has anybody else had similar problems? |

Topic: General Discussion / Dextro energy tablets I used to order a box of Tropical flavour Dextro tablets (I think it was 24 packs) from my local Lloyd's Pharmacy. After I'd done this a couple of times, they used to keep a box in store, ready for me. That way I'd never run out.I've now changed over to Jelly Babies - more flavoursome and available in more shops. |
