Thanks for that Mark - I'm relieved to find it wasn't anything I was doing wrong. It seems a bit pointless to me, because I've got round it by Copying the document and then Pasting it on to a Word document, which I can then print. |

I've tried printing the Sick-day rules, but only get blank pages. My printer is connected and is printing normally - what am I doing wrong? |

Topic: General Discussion / Evaluating the Health and Self-Management In Diabetes questionnaire Peter, I followed your link to the ScHARR website and it wanted a User name and a Password, but it offered no way of setting these up, so I was unable to take part in the survey. |

Topic: Carbohydrate Counting / Newbie You should discuss this with your diabetes nurse or doctor. When you go on the DAFNE course, you are assigned a ratio of quick-acting insulin to carbohydrates (expressed in 10 gram potions). My ratio is 1.5 units of insulin to 1 10g portion. So if the meal contains 60g of carbs, I inject 9 units of my quick-acting insulin. Other ratios may be assigned - Like 1:1 or 2:1. CP stands for Carbohydrate Portions, QA stands for Quick-Acting (insulin), BI is Backgroung Insulin (like Lantus). BG is Blood Glucose You should press your GP to get you on to a DAFNE course, where everything (including carb counting) is explained properly. |

Topic: Questions for HCPs / blood glucose monitoring diaries MallI have created a Word document for the detail pages and another for the cover. You then need to get some A5 paper for the detail pages and some A5 photographic paper for the covers (because it's stiffer). Obviously you need a printer that will print on A5 stationery. It all works for me, but I can understand if you think it's not worth the effort and expense, but once you've got stationery you're sorted. |

Yes, Dave - it is confusing. I always thought that the brewing process changed sugar into alcohol, so the stronger the beer, the less sugar it contained. |

Topic: General Discussion / BGs before exercise Thanks Warwick. I think I'll keep things as they are for the time being, but there are a lot of useful tips here - thanks everyone. |

Topic: General Discussion / BGs before exercise Hello Warwick, I usually exercise about two and a half hours after lunch. My BGs go down by 5 or 6, so if I'm about 11 before I start I usually have some jelly-babies and a cereal bar afterwards to keep my BG from going down too far as my body recovers - that's about 2 or 3 CPs. |

Topic: General Discussion / BGs before exercise Wow, Phil - I'm not anywhere near your league! I limit myself to 20 minute sessions, but I do get out of breath and get the old heart pumping.I'm probably 50 years older than you - so that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it! Have you done any racing? Cycling is a great sport, you should try it. |

Topic: General Discussion / BGs before exercise I spend 20 minutes on my exercise bike most afternoons in an attempt to keep myself reasonably fit. I usually reduce my lunchtime QA so that my BG before this is around 10 or 11. Would it be better to inject the correct QA and then take extra Carbs if necessary before the exercise? Or doesn't it matter? |

Topic: General Discussion / Can DAFNE consider changing from the use of CP’s to g of carbohydrate? In view of all the comments above, is this still on the cards? |

Topic: Carbohydrate Counting / Maths Test Thanks Simon - I'll have to remember how to do that. I suppose the real point is that I shouldn't have to - why couldn't Walkers have put the 'per pie' values on the box? |

Topic: Carbohydrate Counting / Maths Test My wife bought some Walkers Mince Pies for Christmas. When they were served up, I consulted the Nutrition Information on the box. It only showed values per 100g and the carbs were 60.9g per 100g. It didn't show values per pie. The net weight of the box was 372g (I assume this means just the pies - not all the packaging) and there were 6 pies in the box.I'm not very good at maths, so I struggled to calculate the CPs per pie - I came up with 4 CPs - was I close? |

I'm obviously tempted by these Libre kits - how much do they cost initially and then how much do the sensors cost? |

Topic: General Discussion / Can DAFNE consider changing from the use of CP’s to g of carbohydrate? My poor old brain wouldn't be able to cope with these changes, I'm afraid. My control is quite good at the moment using the current method, so I would prefer it not to change. |

Topic: Questions for HCPs / No Levemir with me Ossieyou'll probably be home by the time you read this, but if that were me, I would do some extra blood tests and take corrective QA doses if needed. Then I would resume my evening BI as normal. I don't think it will affect tomorrow's blood sugar readings too much. |

Topic: General Discussion / Fewer injections This device allows you to insert a port into your injection site and then inject into that port without injecting into your skin. Each port lasts 3 days and they cost £72 for a box of 10. It could be helpful if you have an issue with 5 injections a day, I suppose.www.medtronic-diabetes.co.uk/minimed-products/i-port-advance?utm_source=Desang&utm_medium=Advert&utm_campaign=i-Port Advance Desang I think the above link works if you Copy and Paste it. |

Topic: General Discussion / No insulin for 2 months You urgently need to escalate this, Dyonisus, your blood-sugars must be sky-high - are you able to test or is that denied to you as well? Contact the Basildon Health Trust, or whatever they're called. You need to get this sorted ASAP.You could also contact Diabetes UK on 0345 123 2399 - they might take this up with the health authority involved. |
