Topic: General Discussion / Dafne Diary

I have some Word documents that allow me to print my own diaries. You'll need some A5 photographic paper (for the covers) and plain A5 paper (for the diary pages). You'll also need a printer that can print on A5 stationery (most inkjet printers do, I understand, but I'm not certain) and a stapler. I can email these documents to you if you're interested.

Topic: General Discussion / Conversion from Humalog insulin to Novorapid insulin

Hello Sarah

You're right, it's not Actrapid - it's NovoRapid I've got in the fridge. What an idiot! When I was discussing this with my DSN, she talked about changing to Actrapid, and when I picked up the prescrption, I put it straight into the fridge. Apologies all round Embarassed

Topic: General Discussion / Conversion from Humalog insulin to Novorapid insulin

The reason for the change was that when I was on Humalolog, I used a Lilly Memoir pen, which had a display and a memory which allowed me to see details of previous injections. This was great, but the battery ran out and Lilly no longer manufacture Memoir pens. The only other pen with displays is the Novo Nordisk Echo pen, which my DSN got for me. This uses Actrapid insulin - hence the change.

Topic: General Discussion / Conversion from Humalog insulin to Novorapid insulin

I will soon be converting to Actrapid. My DSN has told me that their characteristics are very similar and that I should have no problems. I would welcome any input from people who have done this, or who know haw similar they are.

I now have a Novopen Echo and will soon be converting to Actrapid insulin. I have raised a separate topic regarding this conversion and would appreciate any input you could give on it.

Topic: General Discussion / Humapen Memoir

The battery in my Humapen Memoir pen has finally expired. I understand that Lilly no longer make them. Is there anything similar that will display the date and time and dosage of injections?

Topic: General Discussion / Hypos

Dean, if you provide a bit more info, like what background insulin you're on and perhaps an extract from your blood- glucose diary showing the problems you're having, then you might get some more responses.

Topic: General Discussion / Split Levemir dose

Yes, Ruth - that's what I would do - increase the 10pm Levmir by 1 unit and see what effect that has. You may have to increase it again, if you're still high in the morning. I would leave the morning dose unchanged.

Topic: General Discussion / URGENT ADVICE NEEDED - Lancet Devices - Discontinuation of One Touch Comfort Lancets

I used to use one lancet a week - testing 5 times a day and never had any problems. If by 'double-dipping' you mean using a lancet more than once, that shouldn't be too much of a problem. Your diabetes specialist nurses should have a good supply of finger-prickers and lancets.

Topic: Carbohydrate Counting / Carbs and Cals

I like to have it handy 'just in case'. I don't have a smart phone for apps, but my son has just given me an iPad - I'll have to ask him if I can put apps on that. Thanks novorapidboi.

Topic: Carbohydrate Counting / Carbs and Cals

I have an old copy (4th Edition) of Carbs and Cals for Diabetics and wondered whether it has been updated, or whether there is something better. It must have pictures of food, because I have no idea what 35 grams of anything is. Any ideas would be welcome.

Topic: General Discussion / Anxiety / Stress and Dose Adjustment

From my limited knowledge I have heard tha when adrenaline is released, your system assumes that additional energy is about to be needed and triggers the release of glucagon from the liver - so your BG rises.

Topic: General Discussion / High blood sugar in morning

I don't think you should worry too much about a reading of 8.3 - I wish I was 8.3 every morning.
If your reading is exactly 8.3 EVERY morning, you should check the meter out with the control solutions that came with the meter.

Topic: General Discussion / Broken Humapen

I guess you will have got a replacement Humapen by now and are in the process off sorting your BG levels out. You should really have a backup Humapen and a backup pen for your Levemir. I have a backup BG meter as well and also a second finger pricker "just in case".

Topic: Questions for HCPs / Insulin pens

Trish
I got mine from the diabetes support team at my local hospital, but I don't think Lilly are making them any more. I will really miss mine when the battery eventually runs out.

Topic: DAFNE Online Mobile / Centre code

Sorry - I didn't answer your first question: I think your status would be 'User' rather that 'Graduate', but I don't think it would restrict your access.

Go to 'Settings' (in the orange bar above), then choose 'Enter Centre Code - I think this should do it.
