Hello, when you have a snack and don't test your BG - i entered mine as 0 - but that brought the average down (wrongly) - but it would not let me proceed without entering a nunmber.

Hi all,

Forgive me if this is in the wrong thread, but would like to make some suggestions for adding some tools to the BG Diary that may be of use to others:

- ratios: it is a pain to keep entering these every time you make an entry! can you either input your regular ratios for each time of day into your settings (like the BG targets), or make a drop down list on the entry page (instead of typing 1:1 etc)?

- could you also make a drop down list on th entry page to show injection site (eg. stomach, right (and left) arm/thigh/calf, Buttocks, other) ? This would be really useful to monitor where you are injecting to help you see if you are doing it in a particular place too often. Also, as different areas of the body have different absorption rates it may also give indication as to why BGs have fluctuated out of target.

There's a really good App I found for my iPhone: 'Diabetes Diary' v 1.5.2 by Chris Bowley, that shows a picture of the human body with your injection sites given as a %s. Each area gets redder the more you inject in a particular site. Perhaps you could replicate something similar for the Graphs page??

Many thanks in advance

Emma

Hi EeeBee & all ..

Tend to agree with EeeBee about inconvenience of needing to enter ratios but I reverse calculate ratio from CP and QA as check on dosage taken .. and sometimes have got it wrong, especially after changing ratio in order to improve results. Semi auto entry of ratio could perhaps tempt omission of this check.

On balance though the default presentation of the last ratio used at a given event could offer the opportunity to quick compare with CP/QA mental calc and accept or enter an alaternative.

Perhaps we all enter our ratios differently .. I would enter your 1:1 just as 1. although dafne recommends 0.5 ratio changes I find I use .75 and 1.25 (entered as .7 and 1.2 for speed) as well. Any drop down would need to cater for that, hence the suggestion of offering last used as default.

Also suggest you have a look at previous posts re Diary Summary Report which had suggestion for reporting ratios used over a period of time.

Not sure about the need for the site monitor as would slow entry down again and why not just change site to a personal plan .. basically I'm a round the midriff(?) man .. approximately breakfast is 9.30 o'clock, lunch 11 o'clock(missing the button), dinner 1 o'clock and bed 2.30 o'clock. The sites will will probably then tell you if you are overusing. I would give this one a lower priority than the ratio suggestion.

Cheers, John

Hi EeeBee and john day.

Regarding the ratios columns, they don't have to be added if you don't use/need them in your recording routine. I found them very usefull and was why I requested if it could be added to the diary.

I also checked and it will update wether or not you put a ratio value in, it's purely upto the individual if they have a need to put the ratio in.

Hello

I know this has been asked before but I was wondering if there is anyway of increasing the number of entries per day. I am currently on split doses of levemir, and have a booster shot of humalog at 6am to keep the dawn phenomenon at bay. As I am currently pregnant I am also checking before meals and 2 hours after and having quite a lot of hypos. I have ended up writing some of the results into the comments boxes so that I can keep a record of them, or just missing some readings out.

Thanks

Rachel

Hi Guys, thanks for your requests. With regard to the ratios, it seems people want more automation there, whether it's a drop-down box or using the last entered ratio. Whilst we're happy and willing to add functionality, we want it to be of use to everyone, so we need to get this right. Some things to think about:

If it's using a drop-down box we need to cater for everyone, as whereas I might input my ratios as 1:2 say, john may input them as 0.5 instead so that could prove difficult. One possibility may be to have a drop-down box which has all of the ratios that you personally have already used, with the option to enter text manually thus adding a new ratio. How does this sound?

I'd also be happy to add a calculation that automatically populated the ratio field based on the contents of the QA and CP fields. Not all people would want this though so we'd have to make it optional I guess. Would people want this?

A final option is to use the last used ratio. The problem here is if it's based on the last ratio for a specific type - what happens when you change the type in the dropdown box, will it automatically update the ratio based on this?

Just some things to think about on the ratios - this is your site though so let me know what you want and we'll make it so! Smile

With regard to the injection sites - sure thing, shouldn't be too hard to put on the entry form, may be trickier to ad a 'graph' but we'll do what we can there.

RachelA - how many entries per day are you in need of? The limitation is there because if there's too many entries in a day this might make the diary display look a bit dodgy, but if you can live with that then so can we!

Thanks for reading,

Simon

Hi SImon - would it be possible to get 15 entries. That would definitely be enough, for all my injections and snacks. Thanks alot - Rachel

Hi Simon,

I think your suggestion of : 'have a drop-down box which has all of the ratios that you personally have already used, with the option to enter text manually thus adding a new ratio' would be a good option.

the injection site function would be much appreciated especially as i've found last week that by doing my injections in other places rather than my stomach has had a profound effect on my BGs. My calculations have been correct to my CPs (like the previous week and had good BGs) but I've suffered high BGs last week after meals since doing my injections in say my arm or leg.

I'm sure there's an absorbtion problem but since we're all advised not to keep doing injections in one place ie. stomach I'm a bit stuck for solutions. I can't increase my ratios at meal times because I suffer hypos so my ratio of 1:1 must be correct. So, it would be good to visually monitor injection sites and BGs!

Thanks so much

Good news - you now have a drop down next to the ratio selection box with your previously used ratios - hope this makes things easier for you.

Also, you can now specify an injection site - if i've missed any then let me know. You can't currently see any graphs for this or it represented on the diary display (would you want to), however in time these will come too!

Let us know if we can do anything else/differently.
