I think your levels of activity and muscle mass is most definitely the reason your on so little insulin, that or you have been diagnosed within the last few years...........

I need to get more active and drop my carbs pronto.......;)

Will never be on doses like you though......Sad

Ive been type 1 for almost 7 years, was never sick, just started drinking gallons of anything I could get my hands on, sweeeter the better ! just mentioned it to Doc when went about a cold, and immediatly diagnosed as Type1 after urine sample in his office !!

Well I take loads of carbs noting to do with exersise or gym, just types of food I like. Pre DAFNE I used to take in total 24 measures daily including BI ! Couldnt figure out , still cant how my control was so good !
What I also found out was that because I was injecting in my stomach, three times on same side with Novarapid, once on other side for levemir, I had a layer of fat ( thayt I couldn't shift)which was exactly in the injection areas. and it was larger on the Novarapid side which I injected three times daily. Found an article in Fitness magazine which said the Insulin was responsible for me retaining subcutaneous fat in the injection areas. I now inject into top of my legs, right for Levemir , left Novarapid Very Happy I have reduced the layer of fat, but still little bit there.Diabetes is weird the way it effects us differently ! My readings today were 6.7 at 8.30 am, took 11 units , for my 11CP.At 2.18 pm, BS was 5.9, took 10 units for cp value of 10. at 9.05 pm, BS was 6.9, took 13 units, for CP value of 13.
At 9.30pm, just took 8 units of BI, didnt do any readings, this is my normal regime, in comparison to some I know, I think Im quite fortunate.

I don't know where you guys get the time for all that......I get home at 5 pm and then a couple of nights a week I do some martial arts training.........

Eugene, the description of your control is not very common with all the diabetics I talk to in the UK, so your very lucky, being physically on form means the cells of your body must be using the insulin really efficiently........and even after 7 years, you might still have some beta cell function.....maybe not though.........

You say your 80kg, what's that in stone.......seems tiny, which again will help.......

Hi, just to say that I have stopped injecting in my stomach area because it increased fat deposits. I have already noticed a difference after about 2 months.

80 kg is 12.5 stone, which I dont think is tiny, Im 5.7 " I hope to get it down to 12 stone, and stabilise at that weight.I was a stone heavier three years ago, before I got back to regular exersise. Now the exersise I do are quite intense with very little rest periods in between. I know what your saying regarding my control regime, but in the DAFNE group I was in, everyone had a different way of doing it previously, and our readings differed greatly. My Doctors have said I dont have any Beta cell function, I was tried on tablets initally but I may as well have being taken smarties.

Yes I was never told by any of the Doctors or Consultants that the Insulin could cause build up of fat in the injection sites. They had no objection what so ever to me switching ,to top of my legs though. Its something I think Doctors should mention to all patients but especialy those who they know are following fitness regimes.

Cool As you say it's all mysterious how differently diabetes affects all of us

I do 5 Zumba classes a week plus 3 Body Pump classes, I was advised by my DAFNE team to drop 2 units of Novarapid before the classes. Sometimes this works, sometimes it doesn't, yesterday I did a Zumba class and my readings were:

07.00 BG 7.2 CP 4 QA 5
10.00-11.00 Zumba class
12.10 BG 7.4 CP 6 QA 9
17.00 BG 7.2 CP 4 QA 4
20.00 BI 15
22.00 BG 4.7 +1CP

I only dropped 1 QA this time because the BG was a good reading. My dinner time meal at 17.00 only consisted of 2 CP, the rest of it was chicken and vegetables for which I have to take QA. But I do 4-5 BG readings a day, more if needs be like driving etc.

Interesting looking at your readings, where i would have differed with you in the action taken is , I would have taken only 4 QA at 7am. 6 QA at 12.10 pm exactly the same at 5 pm. I would take BI at 9.30 pm, of 8units. Generally never take readings after that, if I have late night snack, I just take the QA that corresponds to the cp of what I've eaten.

I do WIng Chun as well, but combine it with some MMA, havent had any issues so far, just up my carbs as needed. I also do a lot of Horse Riding and find that far more strenuous, but so far since being diagnosed last July have only had a couple of mild Hypo reactions. Wink

it's good that you can do a 1:1 ratio, are you able to eat non carb foods without taking any QA?

Ye I'm on a 1:1 ratio, If i eat non carb food , I wouldn't take any QA .

well i think there is a solution for everyone, its just finding a balance that suits you...
when I was first diagnosed I was bit of a model patient for them, but then realised I wasnt going to let it take over my life, stop me from enjoying food, drink, nights out and exersise...well a lot of the people Ive met whoe are recently diagnosed, struggle with there sugars , and accepting its a no cure illness....
