Many thanks Warwick. I actually think i forgot to take my levemir yesterday morning. My bloods were fine yesterday morning and at lunch but then from dinner onwards they went crazy. 12.4 at dinner so i took the correction of +2 and 1 for the cp i ate. Then at 10.30 going to be bed i was 16.4. Took a correction of +3 and my evening levemir. Decided to do a 3am and i was 11.9. Didn't do anything at this stage when i probably should have corrected. Anyway woke up this morning and at 6am before breakfast and i was 12.1

Could missing my levemir yesterday morning be a reason?

Yeah, missing basal insulin can make BGs a bit unmanageable for a couple of days while it all sorts itself out again. I don't miss often, but when I do, my readings go high for abut 24 hours.

Many thanks. Since Monday morning my BG have been out of range in the mornings. 12.4 Monday, 11.1 Tuesday and 11.1 again this morning. Would missing my levemir Sunday morning still be having an affect at this stage? I increased my evening BI by one unit on Sunday night which was planned because my BG in the mornings had a patern of being around 9.

Probably not as Levemir is in and out quite quickly..........

Can you confirm? Are you on one or two Levemir injections.....?

Sorry i am on two levemir injections. For example last night i had my dinner late at 2115 and my BG was 5.9 so i had 7 cps and took 6 qa. At 2255 when going to bed i was 5.7 so took my 15 levemir.

OK thanks, so basically any morning high will be down to not enough Levemir before bed, the Dawn Phenomenon or insufficient QA for any carbs taken before bed.

All three of these could be responsible in your case......

When did you last test your 15 Levemir before bed dose? You should test it to see if you can get your waking number down.... Very Happy

No, I mean, when did you check that the 15 units of Levmir you take before bed was the right amount.........

You would do this by having dinner at 5 or 6, then nothing to eat or drink after that, you would then take your Levemir as normal and test your BG also. You would get yourself up at 3 am and test again. You could even get up at more regular intervals if you wanted.

This should tell you if your 15 is holding your BG steady during the night, and if so, good, if not, then you will need to make adjustments.

Its common practice to perform this test, as with any dose change, for 2-3 days before making any changes.......

Ahhh right sorry with you now. Yes will do this tonight. Finished DAFNE a month now and my BG are much improved but still trying to get to grips with it all. Determined to get it right. Sorry for all the questions but thanks for all the replies much appreciated.

I done DAFNE in 2009, now on the pump and I am still learning..........asking questions is the best way to get the information you need....

Your BI dose is the most important and the doses will change from time to time unfortunately, so its wise to do some carb free testing every month or two if not more often....

let us know how you get on with it.......
