We spend a good lot of our time reading BG results and looking for patterns, but to come off the subject of diabetes... what books or comics do you enjoy to read? Do you have any recommendations? I'd love to know! Smile

My favourite genres tend to be horror, thriller, touch of crime and fantasy. How about you? Smile

My reads!

Novels:

I'm currently reading Julian May's Sage of the Exiles. I am currently on Book 3: The Non Born King.
It has been quite a good fantasy read - though I feel it is very slow paced. I like what is happening in the story at least so I keep reading! This series was recommended to me by my Dad after I indicated interest in reading the Lensman novels. Smile

I finished reading Andrew Neiderman's PIN not too long ago. That was quite freaky and disturbing. I found the ending to be a bit of a anti-climax, only a little bit though, because it did make sense (for this book's nature anyway lol).

I also read read my first Dean Koontz book: Demon Seed! Picked it up dirt cheap in Lidl and my golly, I absolutely loved reading about that twisted artificial mind! XD I remember being scared of the films that were related to this book when I was younger but I think I'd like to go watch them now lol.

Graphic Novels / Comics / Manga / Manhwa:

Currently reading:

Naruto Volume 2: I'm trying hard to give this popular shonen manga a chance but I'm still not convinced because the characters are hard for me to relate to. I only have so much fondness for immature and overly cocky characters...

MAOH: Juvenile Remix Volume 2: I picked this one up out of curiousity and it's been an interesting read as the main character develops his new found special ability and what it means for his world. It's marked as a Shonen, but I believe this is for more mature readers so perhaps it is a Seinen manga...

Astro Boy (Volume 1 & 2 in one book, published by Dark Horse Manga): Wasn't too familiar with Astro Boy and when I saw this - had to pick it up to satisfy my curiosity! It is delightfully charming and innocent even though the subjects the stories touch on are rather scientific or medical - but that's typical of Osamu Tezuka I suppose!

I know I've a lot of comics and what not but please - don't be afraid to show your current or even favourite reads! Very Happy

I love reading Lee Childs. He writes a series about a Character called Jack Reacher. They are really action packed and keep you on the edge of your seat from front to back. I'm also loving anything by Jodi Piccoult, she has a really different way of writing her novels, they are a bit lighter than I usually read but I do enjoy them

I've been a big fan of James Herbert (Horror), and have read all the books. I'm eagerly anticipating his next book in March next year. Another author I enjoy is James Patterson, and especially liked the Women's Murder Club series (1st to Die, 2nd... up to book 9) they are all titled with the number in the series.

I used to be a big fan of comics (Batman, Superman, etc) but haven't looked at them in some time now.

I don't travel into work for as long as I used to, so don't get a chance to get into a book now, and have opted more for the audio books, as I can listen to them on the IPOD whether i'm on a train or driving.

The Alchemists Daughter by Katharine McMahon - and my Amazon review
The length of the book was far too short for me. I was captivated from the first page; life at Selden, not knowing your mother, words I had never read/seen before - "phlogiston", romance, a cad, human trafficking, wigs, whorehouses, and death. A delight to read with some wonderful descriptive passages, together with dialogue that kept the story moving at a relaxed pace, but sufficient to keep me enthralled. FAB-U-LOUS, and will have no difficulty selecting Miss McMahon's other books from the bookshop.

Just to give you an idea of the type of anorak I am; I have a list of every book title and author I have read since August 7th 1973 - and I'd just reached double figures in '73. It makes fascinating reading!

That's quite impressive meltow! How young were you when you decided to start keeping track? I wish I kept track now! XD I've done a bit of hobby reviewing in my time but I stopped doing that a year or so ago.

I think I will see if I would enjoy all these authors we have mentioned - Besides Lee Childs, I'm not sure I've heard of them, which is good - fresh meat so to speak! Thanks for your responses!

I got around (finally) to finishing a series I started a few months back - the Aldebaran comic series. This review explains it nicely. I did find it a good sci-fi read and definitely recommend it. I, unfortunately, only grabbed the first set of this series so I shall have to get the Betelgeuse books another time! D'oh!

My boyfriend got a book for me called "In the Miso Soup" for Christmas and I just finished it the other day. I did enjoy reading it, however I found the open end of the story a bit disappointing. Despite this, I do recommend this book to anyone looking for a rather short, dark and thrilling read. I agree with the quote on the front - it does read like a script for "American Psycho - Holiday Abroad". Smile

I'm another fan of the author Lee Child's Jack Reacher series and have read them all except the latest one.

Currently reading Dan Brown's "The Lost Symbol" and have read his previous books too (Angels and Demons, Da Vinci Code, Deception Point and Digital Fortress)

I also enjoy books by Kathy Reichs, Karyn Slaughter and Harlan Coben.

As you'll notice, most are thriller, mystery, whodunnit style books which appeal to my problem solving/investigative nature Surprised)

I'm with NiVZ - my daughter bought me the latest Jack Reacher for Christmas to complete my set. I read it in practically one sitting - Lee Child certainly knows how to keep a plot bowling along! I'm a bit of a completist - got all of the Michael Connolys, all the Kathy Reichs, and after years of searching second-hand bookshops, e-bay and even providing lists to friends visiting the states I've managed to get all 85 of Earl Stanley Gardner's Perry Mason Novels. I read British authors too - Peter Robinson, Peter James among others. Not that I'm obsessed with detective and mystery novels you understand...
