Hi there - does anyone have experience of diabetic diarrhoea please? Have had diarrhoea for the past 4 weeks with one week in between which was okay. Not feeling nauseous, but am concerned about nutrients, etc as difficult to eat much at the moment!! Thanks for any assistance (am taking rehydration drinks) |

Have already seen the GP once...... No e-coli or other nasties from the hospital tests, so was just wondering if anybody knew about the diabetic-related runs!! A form of neuropathy apparently. |

Not heard much about it personally, but I suppose nerves within the body, and therefore the gut, can be effected....... |

Only found out about it as I was searching for meds which might cause upset stomach! No other neuropathy, not overweight (although could lose a few pounds!). BG not well-controlled - all over the place in fact! |

Autonomic neuropathy can effect the digestive system. From what ive read it more commonly causes constipation. This is a quote from NIDDK (National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases.) and NIDC "while nerve damage to the bowels can cause constipation alternating with frequent, uncontrolled diarrhea, especially at night." These are both US health agencies. http://diabetes.niddk.nih.gov/dm/pubs/neuropathies Try this link for more info. Its a start at least. Also could it be that your diabetes is not the cause? Look into I.B.S. aswell. |
