Topic: General Discussion / "Balance" letter about injecting in public I'm with all of you. When first diagnosed I injected in toliets, but like others found this impractical. I also decided if people didn't like it that was their problem. I am discreet, but not ashamed !! The original letter is a joke, if that person really is a nurse I hope they never care for me they obviously have no understanding of what it means to be a diabetic. Personally if we can't inject then there should be a ban on all medicines in public ;-) |

Topic: General Discussion / "Diabetes set off course" Balance letter I would encourage everyone who has joined this site to email diabetes UK with a positive letter regarding DAFNE. The address is[email protected]. For every approach to Diabetes management there will be winners and losers, this is the only loser I have come across and I have to say I find Diabetes UK approach to this disturbing. I'm sure they will say they can only print what they say, to lets give them something to print ! I would suggest though that no one actually criticises this persons views as they are quite entitled to them. Better to let everyone at Diabetes UK know how good the course is. I have criticised Diabetes UK in the past for their DAFNE coverage but not really got a good answer from them. So lets make them aware that there ARE people who found it a life changing experience. |

Topic: General Discussion / Compare notes... I used to have the same problems with Gym visits. My advice would be, experiment. I don't think there is a good answer because we areall so different. I tried banana's and chocolate and a few other things. I was sometimes a bit low by not having enough but there was no set amount since the level of exercise could change from week to week as could my reaction to the carbs and exercise. I would always keeps some carbs with me though just in case. In fact the biggest issue I had was the next morning when the carb 'demand' was still higher than normal. Its easy to forget about this when 'planning' exercise. |

Topic: Site Development / Site attendance Lizzie, I know what you mean about the reply box !! That would you suggest ? We will change the text about formatting, but what about the box, I'm not sure how to improve it although I agree it needs to improve. I will play with a few options see if I can come up with something |

Topic: General Discussion / Introductions DAFNE Graduate From: Ashford William Harvey HospitalI attended DAFNE in March 2008. I had heard about it from Diabetes UK and as soon as my consultant mentioned it I jumped at the chance. I have been diagnosed for about 10 years and when I was first diasgnosed I lived in Southampton. The clinic there was full of people in wheelchairs with one leg and that made me vow, it would never happen to me !! I take my condition serously and want to manage it actively. Sadly that doesn't mean I'm always well behaved :-) But at least I know how bad I'm being :-) I believe passionately that all Diabetics should get the chance to have Diabetes education and receive the same help I have with my condition. I'm sure there are many many people missing out on a wonderful experience of receiving education AND finding others like themselves. Hopefully this website will provide a small contribution to achieving this aim. |

Topic: Site Development / Site attendance All,With regard to rising up the google rankings, its not that easy. Google operates a reference ranking system. What does this mean ? Basically the more other websites reference your site via links, the higher your ranking. So to get oursevles high up on the google list we need to get as many people as possible to add us to their website. We will gradually move up the listings. The only other way, is google 'ads' i.e pay and since we are a voluntary setup thats not really an option |
