Again, confirming high sensitivity to carbs, you must digest at the speed of light............. Laughing

A mixture of quickly absorbed items with a slower absorbed item would simply slow down the absorption for me..........

Do you find that each item you eat can show up on your blood results...........?

Are ratios not to do with sensitivity as opposed to with digestion times? if things absorb quicker then timing of injection should be considered.....

I have always needed to count salads, green veg etc as having carbs. I count a fair size salad as 10g and a fair size serving of greens, squash etc as 8gms, I also count any protein over 100g as 10% of the total weight. Basically one smallish drumstick is "free" with a 10g salad (counted) but two chicken drumsticks and a salad is counted as 15-18g CHO. One egg "free" but two as 12-15g CHO. All trial and error.

In my book there is no such thing as a carb free meal unless it is also food free! I am on large doses of insulin. TDD 55-90u/day.

Hi Novorapidboi!

When on MDIs I was on 90+ a day with 68 being Lantus (2x34 6am/6pm) and the rest (30 odd) was 10CPs at about 2.7 units per CP.

On a pump now and on a really good day the basals are 38.8 a day and the rest (still 100g of CHO) make up the 25units. The pump has been good BUT I still experience days (or rather consecutive days) where the corrections can add 30 units to the total. I am currently being investigated for chronic low grade infection in an attempt to find a cause for the four-five day periods (about every two-three weeks) where the BGs are a nightmare. Long way from it just ticking over! I try to lead a very routine life as I find the diabetes more manageable

Congratulations on the baby news.

Thanks a lot............it was confirmed last night as a girl with a 4d scan, really excited now..............

Thats a lot of corrections......do you think it may be connected with menstrual behavior, obviously I am not experienced with this, but the time scales you are describing seem to be similar...........

Your need to count all items on plate can be explained by the pump, due to lack of a slower acting insulin to mop up the fats and proteins............

How long have you been pumping........

It's funny what you say Helen about a carb free day being a no food day - I'm reading a book at the moment (forgive me, can't remember the name, but it's to do with success on a pump- highly recommended) and he says to test basal you should eat nothing apart from a small (small was in bold) amount of cheese or nuts. This is contrary to Dafne obv, which says you could have meat, eggs, salad, etc. I'll be testing my basal today so will only be having the little bit of cheese - I'll let you know how I get on. I'll be delirious with hunger!
Sorry to hear you have such a nightmare with your control - it is in my experience an incredibly frustrating condition. I always think that if I didn't have diabetes I don't know what I'd do with my time!
