Not very good BS this morning at 11.2. Bedtime was at 11.7, had 1 cp and 4+7 QA along with my 22 BI.
That is me tried the 22 BI for 2 days so will try 24 tonight.

With regards to a cp free bedtime snack. I used to always have a cp free snack and it was only because the HC told me that was why I was going high.
With no carbs the brain was telling the liver to pump out glucose as it needed it.

Withy my BI being isophane and the duration being 8-14 hrs and I suspect it only lasts 89 hrs, would I better taking it 3x daily? 1 in the morning 8am another 1 at 4 or 5pm and then at bedtime. I know there is a risk of them overlapping but the morning one has ran out by 5 or 6pm.

If it lasted 14 hrs for me 2 a day would be fine. When first put on isophane, 15 yrs ago, was told take it at dinnertime which is ok if it lasted the full duration.
However, if it only lasted 10 hrs that would explain why I was always high in the morning. Take it at 5pm, 10 hrs later at 3am it has ran out so nothing to cover the dawn phenomenon which, incidentally I was never told about.

Thanks for all the help your giving me it is very much appreciated.

Best regards

Derek
ps they told me the metformin stops the liver producing glucose.

Its definetly something to discuss with your team.....but they may just offer another background insulin that has a longer duration..................if you can prove with results how long it is actually lasting that would help.........

See how the higher dose of 24 goes, I suspect you may need to still go further, also the more units you put in, the longer its active duration, they may have told you this in the course...........so theoretically you could end up on 30 units and it may also last past the time when the hormones kick in...........

Keep up th good work........... Very Happy

Well, at lunchtime (1.23pm) was 4.3. Had a 0 cp meal and by dinner (7pm) BG was 7.6. Had 1.5 cp for dinner and took 6 units QA (4:1 ratio). Just checked BS just now (9.45pm) and bs is at 10.7.

Looks like I will have to go on a different BI or ??. Have a dafne review on the 6th of this month so hopefully I can be sorted.

Hey Derek............

There are definitely improvements coming, even if they are no that obvious, it seems as though your insulin/carb ratios will be coming down a bit once the BI is sorted......

Keeping the BI doses the same time every day is a good idea as your body will get used to that cycle of insulin, so keep that up.........to test your evening BI effectiveness its best to take no QA insulin before bed, so at 2330, have no insulin, even if you are just above target..then this way you can tell whether your BI dose has held you steady, at least until 3, 4, 5 am till the dawn phenomenon kicks off.......

I see you were having some lows between lunch and dinner, this being due to your ratio change, remember you can go up and down in 0.5s as well, instead of the jump from 4:1 to 3:1, the smaller increment may be what you need, however always remember your insulin/carb ratios will never be perfect until the BI is sorted, and in my opinion, you are not there just yet, but nearly though.....

I look forward to seeing todays results, especially the morning, as you had no carbs or insulin before bed, and you were on target, so anything between 4.5 - 7.5 and your there........and you can always repeat the dose again with no carbs to confirm..........

Well done so far................. Very Happy

Hi Novorapidboi

Shock this morning and very disappointing. Woke with a BS of 13.7!
Not what I was expecting.

For bedtime food I had a small bowl of cheese, Hellmans mayo light and a handful of chopped pepper. No carbs there and I jump up almost 8mmol overnight!!

I should maybe have 1 cp for supper and see how that goes as other nights when I have had cp I wasn't as high as I am this morning.

You should try and get a 3am result, that way you will know its the dawn phenomenon and that even though you are taking your BI dose immediately before bed or later on in your case, nothing can stop its effects............

If by 3 am you have went up then you know you need more BI, although there are no carbs in that meal, it will eventually be used as energy/glucose, so if you can, have nothing, its hard, but necessary........

On the Tuesday you were 10.7 and had 6 units correction, then woke up 9.8, did you have a snack that night, like cheese and peppers......?

Yes, had a snack. Eat every night, unfortunately. A habit I've had since about 5 yrs old.

I basically have the same every night. n the nights when I had CPs I had a bowl of low fat creme fraiche and 100g of blueberries (5g carbs).

A lot of times I can have both, sweet and savory. The bowls are small ikea bowls so not a massive amount but enough to satisfy my physocological craving.

I had a good stable upbringing and my mother and father are still together after 53 years but there was never any love shown.

When I went to secondary school and met new mates I can remember one of them going out and kissing his mum and telling her he loved him and I found that totally weird., said to him n"do you give your mum a kiss!!". I most probably used food to feel love and they say childhood affect's you for the rest of your life.

Maybe I need some hypnotism or EFT (emotional freedom technique). If you've never heard of it I would Google it. It does work. My girlfriend was petrified of spiders for years,. Would hyperventilate. 1 hour session and she was cured. For it to work you have to get to the root cause of your problem and I don't know what caused my problem.

The amount I have wrote there sounds like I need some counseling, lol.
