Hi tweety. The rules are available on the site.Click the Dafne Course Handbook on the left hand side. Then click on the menu at "Coping When You Are Ill".This really does work.I had to use it 2 weeks ago,and it brought the BG's down. You shouldn't hypo as you are doing 2 hourly glucose checks so you will notice any drop. For instance if you took 100 units of ALL insulins yesterday then you would inject 10 units of QA every 2 hours(assuming you have positive ketones.Good luck. |

hi davie thank you didnt even see that on website. so am i right in thinkin to get your TDD you have to take your BI into account too? all sounds so complicated, but couldnt make me feel any worse than i do with my BG sittin at 15 all day, again thankyou x |

No worries.Yeah include your background insulin as well.I know it seems like a lot of insulin but if you have ketones as well then it seems to help clear them as well.Of course if your sugar comes down and ketones become negative then you just revert back to 4 hourly testing.I was sceptical too,but as i say,it worked for me.Good Luck now. |

It worked for me too when I had the FLU for the first time just before Christmas, the fact that I was not eating was even more critical as my body had no fuel, so ketones were inevitable, it was just a matter of controlling them, in fact, my blood glucose readings were at reasonable levels, but the ketones were not......... |

Keep drinking lots of water, and eat if you can, giving your body fuel to use rather than its stores of fat should also bring them down, I think you just add your normal carb ratios on top of your ketone dosing...... |

Keep in mind also about how you're testing for ketones. If it's by ketostix (urine testing) then you're seeing delayed results that may not be reflecting your present time blood ketones (eg, ++ on your urine, but negative in your blood). The reason I'm pointing this out is because of ketones appearing still despite getting your sugar levels down. |

thanks JWo i must admit that would be good as my BG is steading at 8/9 all day but only the last 2 ketone tests were +. i must admit my worry now is when to stop using sick day rules as obviously i dont wany my BG shooting back up, but i dont want a load of hypo's neither.javascript:emoticon(' |
