Done DAFNE in April, and was v impressed! My line is that its the best course I ve ever been on in the 43 years I ve been a diabetic! Am eagerly awaiting my next Hb1c as I ve been stuck on (old school) 8-9 for years!

Morning. On the DAFNE pump course you go through probably similar topics like nutrition, what is diabetes, insulin and carb countin e.t.c..
Also do :
- Insulin adjustment....corrections, step-wise approach, escalation and reduction of insulin
- Insulin injection technique and pump hints and tips
- Basal testing

I finished today too and it has totally blown my mind. There was stuff I didn't know even after 35 years with Type 1. I'm not great at mental arithmetic but I haven;t found the dose and CP calculations too hard so if I can do it anyone can. I only got grade E in GCSE Maths. I already feel like I;m back in control as my control has been terrible in recent years. For the first time I see myself as being the one to make Diabetes fit into my life and not the other way round. I also switched from Lantus to Levemir mid week. It's early days but it already seems to be helping I'm really going to miss the people from my course on Monday after spending a whole week with them. We have follow up on 13th November and I already can't wait to see them all again and find out how they're getting on.

In our area, they require you to do the DAFNE course before they'll allow you to have a pump. After doing the course, one of the guys on our course decided he wasn't interested in the pump any more.

Like everyone else here, my mind was blown by how much I learned on the DAFNE course. I've been diabetic for 40 years, and I'm a pharmacist, so I was sceptical that I would get any benefit from it. How wrong I was!

At least part of it for me was unlearning some of the garbage I've been told over the years (glycaemic index, anyone?)! And how come no-one has ever told me until now that 4mm needles are plenty long enough, when I've been using 8mm needles for around 20 years!?!

Anyway, enough of my ranting. DAFNE is superb, the best thing I've ever done. Smile

Hi everyone! Just finished the course. feeling a bit scared by the precision required in the use of Dafne. But I'm full of good will in the hope that, as you all seems to think, this will change my unstable relationship with diabetes.
Still early for results on my HbA1c....still working out Ratios. Rolling Eyes
I'll keep reading your posts for help and advice! Chiara

Welcome Chiara! The key thing is making sure your background insulin is correct. Once you've cracked that, everything else should fall into place.
