At the end of the day, assuming that you are given the opportunity to use a pump, whether it's succesful for you will depend on whether in practice the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. As a DAFNE graduate I have pretty good control, but last Summer I was given the opportunity to go on to a pump to help deal with a larger than desired number of hypos and some difficulties with exercise. For me, I found that the pump was a real intrusion into my daily life, a constant reminder that I have diabetes. When I did my DAFNE course in 2007 it was a life-changer, allowing me to be normal(ish) again. I stuck with the pump for five months, but in the end my HCPs and I decided that it wasn't for me. In fact, my HbA1c went up with the pump (it was pretty good with DAFNE) and didn't seem to want to come down, although my hypos did reduce.

I'm now back on DAFNE and my HbA1c has come down significantly. My HCPs were brilliant, I wasn't made to feel a "failure", and they were always there for both technical advice and discussion. My advice would be to give it a go if you get the chance - the worst that can happen is that it doesn't work for you, and DAFNE is always there to return to. At least you'll know!

Good luck!
