To all users of dafneonline!

  • Given the chance, what would you like to be able to say about DAFNE to your diabetes team or local health service commissioners (the people responsible for deciding how NHS money should be spent)? (especially if it's not available in your area)

  • How could you grab their attention and give them the 'patient' perspective of what DAFNE means?

  • We'd love some quotes if possible (will be anonymised) to include in an exhibition area of the Diabetes UK Annual Professional Conference in Manchester in March 2013 and really hope you'll be able to help.........

Ideas will be gratefully received until 17th December.

    Thanks in anticipation

It has renewed my interest in taking care of myself and in that respect has hopefully prevented further problems. I went from being a diabetic of 30 years, coasting along, had complications so half thinking what's the point and not bothering to test to a diabetic who WANTS to know what her blood suger is, who WANTS to watch what she is eating and who WANTS to be healthy. DAFNE benefits everyone in some way but I think for long standing diabetics like me it gives you a good kick up the backside.

I second all of the above and would add that, because of the sensible, logical approach to the management of the condition, not only does it improves the lives of those who follow the principles but it also saves the NHS and the benefits system considerable sums of money over the years by reducing the incidence of complications and keeping people fit for work for longer.

DAFNE gives you knowledge and knowledge is power - in this case the power to achieve good control.

I've only completed the DAFNE course this week but already I feel like a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders. Now I know the theory and reasoning behind all the things so many health care professionals have told me for the past 11 years, I now know I need to do them.. and I have the skills to control my diabetes confidently and effectively myself.

I looked forward to attending the DAFNE course as soon as it was offered to me. It did not let me down. After more than 6 years of struggling, I finally feel I have the opportunity to be in control of my life again. This feeling of loss of control of one's life is something that cannot be fully appreciated until it happens to you. Before DAFNE I was a "diabetic"; now I am a normal person who just happens to need insulin. Thank you DAFNE

I attended a DAFNE course in May. I was dubious what it would do for me & was prepared for the usual lectures on what I was doing wrong. How wrong I was!! No one judged or lectured just provided information, interesting discussions and choices. It has changed my view of my diabetes. I feel more empowered and am now requesting blood tests rather than being chased by my practise nurse!! One of the best bits was meeting other diabetics and sharing experiences.
