if you are on Lantus you may not be able to split the dose. Medical opinion I have heard is that Lantus really is a 24 hour insulin and can't be easily split ( thats not to say this is a 100% rule) where as Levemir can be split because it does not last for 24 hours even though it is marketed as a 24 hour insulin. Again its best to speak to your local experts to decide what is best for you, since we are just graduates like you.

Hello Tracy. I agree DAfne is an eye opener. i had another Hypo today, so it has knocked my levels a bit for today, just when I thought I had got it. Cant quite work out why I had a hypo but i must have over compensated it cos my BS was still at 11.4 at tea time.
I only graduated 2 weeks ago, i cant belive that I have never done the dafne before. Anyway good luck.

Thanks for that. I thought I had been told not to split it. I only take 10 units of Lantus, and one to one Qa, which is only usualy 2/3 units per meal. I try to avaid the carbs

Yes you ca split Lantus, they now say that Lantus doesn't last 24 hours so is better in two doses according to daphne educators although my endo didn't see the point of splitting as it runs out at dinner time and my QA with dinner will hold me until I inject at 9.30. Whilst he is a supporter of Dafne he hasn't kept up to date with it. Splitting it is a real hassle though if you travel overseas.

I also suffer from hypo unawareness, I now test if I'm tired for no reason and usually I'm low, when I'm really low it takes up to an hour to feel normal again. I've been told if I keep my blood glucose levels higher (but within range) i should reset my body after a few months so I'll get a warning when I drop to say 4.0 instead of 1.1! If I'm out and not in a position to test I eat 1 - 2 cps just to make sure I don't pass out. I also test before driving if it's a few hours since eating. Tilly
