Nokia N8 - DAFNE Online

How can we ask for an app for Nokia smartphones, including Nokia N8. Is the designer of the app that everyone talks about for iPhone and the Android phones contactable? Thank you.

The Lead Developer for the iPhone App is Simon Fisher, I'm not 100% sure if it is the same Simon who is the co-creator & admin on this site. Go to Users and look for Simon (admin) and send him a message.

Hi,

I'm Simon and I'm the co-creator of DAFNE Online. I'm 24 and was diagnosed with Type 1 in May 2006 whilst at university in Sheffield. I took the DAFNE course a year later, also in Sheffield. I found the DAFNE course to be not only a great tool for managing my diabetes, but also a fantastic opportunity to hear from people who had lived with diabetes for a lot longer than I had. That's where the idea of DAFNE Online came from - I wanted the feeling of a community that supported itself long after the course had finished, and realised that the Internet was a great medium for this.

When not developing/administering DAFNE Online, I enjoy Rugby Union (more recently watching rather than playing as my fitness levels have dropped now I've started working life), drama films, video games (xbox 360) and socialising. Oh, and cooking curry - which I can now fully appreciate thanks to DAFNE! Smile

I went on the iPhone apps website to look at Simon Fisher's app and there was a link for his site, when I clicked on it I was brought back here to the dafneonline site. So he must be here somewhere or perhaps he no longer logs in. I know he can't adapt the app for all phones, and Apple often insists on exclusive rights, but it is also on the android phones. Nokia has many users, the Symbian 3 on the Nokia N8 is very interesting for developers . Anyway, heard many good reviews from people who use it and any thing that helps with diabetic management is a plus. Thanks again.

Hi to anyone who wants listen. I have been a D.A.F.N.E graurate since october 2010 and my bg then was 9 and I have just been to see my diabetic consultant and was told my bg is now 8.4. Smile not quite there yet but it's going in the right direction!

Just to clear up a few things having just noticed this thread. Simon IS the site admin and the iPhone app developer, a guy with many talents ( except security of course, he needs me for that Very Happy ). The android app was very kindly developed by Keith Clarke, who realised thay I was never going to get it done and took it on himself. He did a very good job I believe, although I don't have an android phone.
With regard to the development of versions of the app for other phones, we would like to do it but its a question time and resources. All of us have 'day' jobs and other stuff to do as well as DAFNEOnline. If anyone with the necessary expertise volunteers we are happy to work with them to produce an app, however at the moment we don't have time to do it ourselves.
You can contact any of us via the Message Box system on the right-hand menu or by emailing [email protected] we always try to respond to questions although we may not always give the answer you want.

Thanks Marke, I understand, will work away with the hardcopy diary. Downloaded the Blood Sugar Diary by EFRAC on my phone but it is not ideal, so it is still easier to use the hardcopy diary.

I have RA and Osteoarthritis in both hands and writing is not always easy, some days are worse than others. I use keyboards and buttons more easily during such times, hence my interest in the apps. I am also going to connect my 'One Touch Ultra 2' to my laptop and try and work out something from there. Hope to have a better blood testing device for this purpose soon, but hope is the operative word here.
