My normal meter is a OneTouch ultra... After putting in my prescription a week ago, and a couple of visits to the pharmacy, Boots told me this evening that there's a national supply problem with the OneTouch strips - I'm wondering if there any other users out there who've found this, or if Boots are fobbing me off.

Also if this is the case I thought I'd warn others as they may need to make other plans - I was down to 2 strips so had to press the doctors for a spare meter, which they did give me, only to get home and find the strips expired in January 2009! Back to the pharmacy then...

Think I'll put in a prescription tomorrow and see what happens.

I have been told this so rang customer services who told me Boots are incorrect and there is no issue at all

Boots have told me this about prescription items in the past and when I've asked for the prescription back and taken it to Lloyds or Superdrug there's been no problem at all!

I use the Optium Xceed meter and never ever had an issue with any prescriptions. I will say though that I find Boots very unreliable both in a personal and professional way.
They frequently tell me that there are supply issues with other prescription items yet when I go to another pharmacy there is no issue.

My personal advice is stay away from Boots.

I agree, I dont think the pharmaceutical side of things is there top priority, which is very surprising as they are most commonly known for this service.........

I use a local pharmacy, Rowland's its called, I email my surgery and 2 days later its in the pharmacy bagged up and ready, the wee woman behind the counter knows my name and my wife and sons, and goes straight for the order as soon as she sees me coming in........ fantastic, sorry if that upsets anyone, as I know some of the service you can get is utter pants........

I will be putting in a prescription again soon... hopefully no problems will come up (I go to a Lloyds/Co-Op usually).

I've only used a Boots once, can't say it was the most reliable service but sometimes it's good to know there is a 24 hour pharmacy option somewhere. Smile

A couple of weeks ago when I went to my local Morrison's pharmacy, I had the same problem. They too said there's a shortage, but gave me my prescription back so I could try elsewhere. Fortunately, another local pharmacy had plenty in stock!

Thanks for your replys all - my doctors surgery gave me a meter to tide me over but it turned out to be broken with expired test strips. So I went to the late night pharmacy (a different boots) and bought a new meter, whilst I was there I asked them if they had any OneTouch Ultra strips and they said... Yes! No supply problem or anything. So today I went into the original Boots to complain and tell them they had to refund me for the meter purchase - after going away to consult with the area manager they said they'd refund the meter, get my OneTouch strips in for tomorrow and also gave me a £10 gift card for the trouble. Guess they don't like being exposed as liars....

Anyway, the new meter I got is an AccuCheck Aviva Nano, and I much prefer it to the old OneTouch Ultra, so today I went into the docs and got my prescription changed to the Aviva strips/lancets.

The moral of the story - don't trust what the pharmacist tells you!
