Coeliac Disease and other things

I am a type 1 diabetic (for 38 years)and last year I found out I had coeliac and a thyroid condition. I finally managed to access a diabetic dietitian (after 12 years) but only because of the major change in my diet with the coeliac. DAFNE was recommended for me and I did the course last July.
I wondered if anyone else using this site has coeliac and do you find that gluten-free products make your blood glucose rise much faster than ordinary ones? Gluten-free stuff seems to be much higher in carbs than regular food, especially the cake and biscuits. Imagine, 1 of Tesco's FreeFrom jammy dodger type biscuits is 2 CP's, which for me, on a 2-1 ratio, is 4 units of insulin for 1 biscuit! I don't tend to bother!
And this dawn phenomenon, does it happen every day? Some days I wake up with highs and other days I don't. Is that the way it works? If anyone knows, let me know!

As far as the dawn phenomenon is concerned it does happen everyday, its just sometimes the livers response is slowed down by things like alcohol, or sometimes the digestion of a slowly released carbohydrate the previous night tells the liver to go slightly easier, my dawn phenomenon seems to be fairly consistent whatever I do, even after lots of alcohol , I only feel the effect later on in the day......

Hope you get some feedback on the coeliacs'............Smile
