I understand that unopened insulin should be stored at a temperature of between 2-8 degrees, however, I find that fridge temperatures tend to vary, especially depending upon where you place the insulin in the fridge

I just wondered how resilient insulin was to changes in temperatures especially when travelling abroad and what other people's experiences were with storing insulin

Thank you in anticipation

I keep mine in the top part of the fridge and our fridge like all fridges varies its temperature depending on how much its opened Smile . It doesn't have to be precisely 2-8 degrees, you just don't want it to freeze, hence it should always be in hand luggage when flying. Keeping it 'chilled' just ensures it stays effective until taken out of the fridge at which point it should last for around 28 days. However like blood tests this is just an average, it cluld last longer it could last shorter. Nothing in Diabetes is precise. Very Happy

If you are travelling, then I recommend using a Frio wallet - https://friouk.com

I bought one when I was first diagnosed 15 years ago and it is still working well, and keeping my insulin cool in hot climates. Even on a 43 degree Celsius day in Melbourne, my insulin stayed cool and effective
