Hi, I've recently started going to the gym & want some advice on healthy snacks to have before I go (I'm sick of bananas lol). Been advised by my consultant to reduce insulin by 20% on days that I go, which I d, but still finding that my sugar drops quite low afterwards so looking for slow releasing carbohydrate snack/food. Hope you can help :-)

I have no snack ideas unfortunately but I would ask if you could reduce insulin further.......

when do you go to the gym?

is there a basal insulin dose after you go? you could try reducing that?

it also depends on why your going to the gym, general fitness or to lose weight? if the later then an insulin reduction would be preferable, if not a snack may be better.

digestive biscuits may do the trick

I use dry fruit or a sandwich when I'm feed up with bananas. Fruit bread with low sugar Jan works for me.

I have a few small amounts of Innocent Smoothie before, during and after my gym session. This contains fast release carbs, but it seems to work for me. I've never been able to accurately gauge how many long acting carbs I need to take to keep my sugars up, particularly if I'm doing any sort of high intensity circuits or the like. I also don't want to have to do exercise on a full stomach.
