I wear lenses with no issues...have regular eye checks, contact lens checks and the normal diabetic screening that shows I have background retinopathy.

Before being diagnosed as diabetic I wore contact lenses. Leading up to my diagnosis, about 6 months before, I had problems with my lenses. Eyesight becoming blurry periodically, and my eyes were definitely less moist. I reverted to wearing glasses again.
Having never had problems before, and comfortably worn lenses for about 15 years, was the onset of my diabetes the cause of the eye problems? I don't know and have never asked.
Nowadays, I only tend to wear them as a one off.

Meltow - Blurred vision is one of the symptoms of high BM levels, so was most likely caused by diabetes not lenses, I also had blurred vision before diagnosis, and have it again if BM is consistently high - but since doing DAFNE nearly 2 years ago it has not recurred as my BM is not going so high and low.

I wear glasses - I had lenses for about a year a long time ago but they didn't work for me.

Hello Meltow,

Like Alturn, I had blurred vision around the time of my diagnosis and my optometrist wouldn't prescribe new glasses for me until my BGs had settled down to normal.

After that, I wore the same glasses, in fact I'm wearing them now. They are my backup pair as I got a new prescription a couple of months ago, but I can use either without issue.

I've never worn contacts though so can't comment on that.
