Hi does anyone know if we are ok with standard steel toe shoe's or do we need to look for special ones for diabetics.

I am a Civil Engineer and visit construction sites daily. I have worn many different types of steel toe capped shoes/boot with no issues.

A diabetics foot is the same as a non diabetics foot, its just that some diabetic individuals have less sensation in there feet due to circulation or problems caused from less than perfect control. So identifying pain and injuries is the key thing in foot care. Being able to heal properly is also an issue if blood sugars are not under control.

Reducing the risk of injury to your feet would obviously be helped with soft shoes, but this isn't possible in some workplaces, and there's no reason it should....

If anyone finds some that breathe well while being suitable for an office situation, I'd love to hear from you.

I have reeal trouble finding any that don't hurt my feet and feel like a swimming pool in the summer.

Cheers,
Warwick.

Here in the UK I use Element II...as in roman 2, Warwick.
Goretex uppers and liners that breathe reasonably well.
Must be lots of others out there though using Goretex I would have thought.
