Just wondering if anyone has had one of these (camera down the throat to look at stomach etc). I've been suffering for months now with digestion problems etc and have been on tablets (Omeprazole) to prevent stomach acid, but not working so doctor is referring me to gastroenterology at hospital, and she said they would probably want to do an endoscopy. How does it work with a diabetic because I thought that you couldn't eat and drink anything at all because of the nature of the procedure. Grateful for any thoughts!

I have no idea how things take place but I would imagine they would still want you to refrain from eating.

This should be fine with if your background is OK, might be worth doing some basal tests to make sure before the procedure.

They might hook you up to some sort of drip in the event they need to give your bg levels a boost....

Hope its not too uncomfortable for you..... Wink

I had one back in June this year. I was booked into the first appointment of the day at 9am, so I went less time without food. I was ok, and they checked my bg levels constantly, then gave me biscuits after. They were very good, but that was under private healthcare. I assumed the NHS follows the same guidelines.

Thanks guys. I will ask if it can be done first thing. Louise, can I just ask, did you take long acting insulin than normal? I assume if your BG is too low before it happens you can have Lucozade or something? I split my Lantus dose bedtime and morning. Just want to be equipped with as much info as I can, thanks!

I reduced my basal dose the night before. I think they said I was able to have lucozade if I needed it, just no solid food. Smile

Suggest you check with your Hospital Diabetes Team - they should see you when you go into hospital for any reason, and will be able to give you advice about what you need to do.
