Calling all Ladies!

My BGs are all over the place. I've increased my breakfast ratio and that seems to be bringing me into target (except for the hypo - I was out shopping) I suffer from the DP so unless I get up at 5am to take a correction I will run high in the morning. I've included my diary - suggestions welcome.
I was due to go on the pump but that's out the window for now!

I'm curious as to what other mums to be have done and how you coped. I had a misscarriage a couple of months ago and this is my second pregnancy. I'm only 6 weeks so it's very early days.
I've got an apt in a few weeks to see the Obs Consultant.

Feel free to repsond to this post or pm me

Thanks
Sam Smile

Hi Sam,
Congratulations on your pregnancy Smile
From your diary entries, most of them point to maybe an increase in your morning BI as you are often correcting at every meal prior to your evening BI.

Thankfully during my pregnancy my insulin requirements didn't change much but every pregnancy every different.

Can your DSN not offer any assistance? I would have thought given you are diabetic and your previous history they would or should I say should be keeping a close eye on you and you BGs etc.

I wish you all the very best Sam Smile

Cheers,
Anele.

Thanks Anele. I'm just trying to get ahead of the game. I was to go for the pump on the 15/7 and I was being a bit lazy and not looking at my results. Now I'm pregnant I'm freaking ever so slighly and wished I'd just stayed on top of them from the start. I'll see them next week I was just interested in what other mums to be had gone through!
Fingers crossed Razz

Hi Sam how's it going? Any improvement? I probably would suggest an increase in BI like Anele has, maybe both morning and night as you have been correcting before breakfast.
Congrats on your pregnancy, I'd be interested to know how youre going as I'm thinking about having a baby soon.

Hi
I’m not a mum or a lady, but please don’t hold that against me, I haven’t a clue on how to handle a pregnancy and I hold up my arms to you mums in admiration.

I found recently with me having a spot of time in hospital that I had to adjust my BI, if you wish to read the note I put in at the end it may be of some help.
Topic: (colonoscopy’s).
In short I had to go a long time on free carb and QA diet 26 hours, so my BI had to be right.
What’s similar to you is the weight issue, as you go longer the more weight you put on.
Which affects your amount of BI insulin? In my case I had lost weight so had to reduce my BI.
It’s a simple calculation you make to give you a guide line on how much you need.
Hope it helps, best wishes with you and the baby.

Hello Ladies! Sorry for the late response. All is going very well. That's me 12 weeks today Laughing
I've had 2 scans so far and baby seems to be growing well and certainly making me feel like pants some days. My BGs have came right down into target most days so I'm now running between 4-6 pre-meals and testing 2 hours post meals. My ratios have remained 2:1 across the board. If anything I've been working with my BI. Changed from Humulin I to Levimer as I was hypoing through the night. My HBA1C was at 9% when I found out I was pregnant. 4 weeks later it's at 7.7%
It's been hard work to get my targets but I'd rather that than have problems. My diabetic care team are fantastic and are there for me 24/7
Just be prepared to put the work in but all I'm thinking about is getting to the next day and everything being ok.
I got my scan last Wed and was so flustered and BGs were low that I scoffed my lunch and forgot to take QA - I've been chasing my tail since and I'm so annoyed with myself. If that's baby brain god help me over the next few months/years lol!!
Anyway good luck and lots of baby dust. It took me just under a year to concieve and all I focused on was trying to fall pregnant. I was due to get the pump and I focused on that in the end and hey presto along came a baby!! It's a lot of pressure to put yourself through so try and keep calm. Easier said than done when you want to start planning.
Ahhhh it's all exciting Wink

Keep in touch xx
