Hello, I just wanted to highlight restaurants which do a carb info sheet or online resource. (Of the places I mostly eat) So far I've found Nando's, Starbucks and Witherspoons. Wagamama's have a statement which isn't helpful to DAFNE people! Perhaps if enough people email them they will add a nutritional content! http://www.wagamama.com/food/dietary/diabetic
Pizza express have a nutritional content and a statement saying they will add one by the end of the year. I think it would be good if all restaurants did this after all it cant just be people with diabetes who would benifit! And if a witherspoons pub can produce such a detailed list then they all can! Please think about it and if you want email them and maybe we can get it done? If anyone has any thoughts or suggestions for other restaurants who do or don't have it, I'd happily email them.

cheers,

Ruth, This seems like a very good idea, I will look at adding something to the carb counting pages so that people can 'add' the sites that do provide this information. I'm sure it will benefit a lot of people, especially if it works on the 'mobile' version of the site since you could then check if the restaurant you are in has a list and then go to it !

That's good in theory but when out you don't have access to the internet.

My phone does have internet access but it is not a smartphone or iphone thing, so a lot of regular internet pages designed for computer screens, such as restaurant websites, are too large for it to load. The DAFNE site is fine because it is desgined for mobiles, but like I say it cannot always manange to convert a normal site to a size possible to view on its screen.
Restaurant carb info is a bugbear of mine, especially places like Eat or Pret which are so trendy with their minimalist packaging covered in boasts about the name of the farms where each separate ingredient was picked and harvested, pictures of the farmers and their familes, etc, that there is no room for something which might be of actual use like nutritional information. I wrote to Eat about this and this is the reply I got:
"The decision we have taken to limit the information on our packaging is to keep the image in line with our brand standards of being simple & uncomplicated. To this end we only cover the ingredients, and essential allergens information. I have however passed your comments & suggestions on to our food development team, who are charged with menu construction & product development. They are always more than happy to receive feedback from our customers as they strive to help EAT. do things better."

Hi, I have now added a new section to the carb counting area called carb links. The idea is we can all add entries for sites we find that provide carb info. Over time hopefully we will buiild up a comprehensive list of sites that provide this information so that we can all benefit.

Hello, I am new to DAFNE a recent graduate and during the course I did a bit of investigation in to this subject. Cafe rouge has loads of info inc carb values so do McD's and KFC if you like that sort of thing. Zizzi is good too for info. We had a discussion and someone suggested that if you were going out you could look up the restaurant website and have a few ideas of what you might want to eat to get the carb values. Good in essence but not an exact science as individual restaurants, even chains can't give exactly the same size portions. All info like this is a great help but if you can judge by eye roughly what you are eating it is probably a good habit to get in to. Also I was in Pret the other day and managed to get in to thier website on my blackberry to look up the carb value of my sandwich.
