How many units of insulin would you have on a 0.5:1 ratio
for example 5 CPs / being 52.0g of carbs?
would it be 0.5 times 5 = 2.5?
Then with a one unit pen (I don't have a half unit pen) & taking into consideration bs levels being low or high it would be rounded down to 2u or rounded up to 3.
I've never done DAFNE so am I right with my workings out please?

Spot on. You round up or down depending on where your BG is at within the target range. You take that into account also if outside target range.
I have switched to a half-unit pen because I am very sensitive to insulin

How many units of insulin would you have on a 1.5:10 ratio
for example 2 CPs / being 20g of carbs?
would it be 1.5 times 2 = 3 so 3u QA

Yes. For QA:CP ratio of 1.5:1 then you would inject 3u of QA for 2 CPs (20g carbs). QA:CP is the ratio that DAFNE teaches.
QA:CP ratio of 1.5:1 maps to 1u QA for 6.7g CHO (Carbs).

Gill,
I have to say that your recent efforts have been very impressive, and you haven't even done DAFNE. You are always on the forums asking questions and getting involved. It has been nice to see, helps keep people motivated, including me......
Keep up the good work........

novorapidboi26,
Thank you very much! But I can only try & do it with help from people like yourself who have been lucky enough to do DAFNE.
I come on to the forum to ask my questions because I get more help here than I do at a 10 minute/half hour appt with my DSN. No disrespect to her because when I do see her she's very good.
I like to get involved with the forum by asking my questions and by lurking around to see what others are saying/doing about things. I wish there had been something like this 20 years ago when I was dx.
To you nrb26 and to all other DAFNE people on here thank you for all your help.

Hi Gill,
It must be really hard to try to do all this alone (albeit with the support and help of graduates on here)
If I were you I'd really keep on at your local diabetes team to look into funding DAFNE as that would be the best answer for you!
I'd urge everyone to log onto the website below and sign the DUAG epetition to get structured education funded for all!!!
