Having a carb free day today to try to work out what my Levemir is really doing. BG was 12 before I took my Levemir at 7 and is now 12.9. Should I take some corrective Novorapid or will that distort my results. Any advice please.

I believe you need to stick just with the Levemir so you can see how it affects your bg over the time. If you bring in QA you'll have to start again with your carb free meal/day. It would be better to start such a day with a normal BG, so might be best to resume when you get that...

Thanks. I took some QA yesterday but it DID confuse the results so I started again today without adjusting. My last reading was 19 so obviously I need to increase BI. Very interesting.

Had never thought of trying that to get BI right - interesting idea Idea . Did you get your dose right in the end Ruth?

Although I'm not sure I could go a whole day without any carbs - not from a diabetes point of view, just the will power and finding things to eat! Smile

Beccy,

I was slightly confused by your statement - 'had never though of trying that to get BI right'

How were you taught in your DAFNE course to adjust your BI dose......?

In terms of carb free testing, it doesn't need to be all day as most people on MDI only have one or two dose of BI insulin, so you only need to test the day or day and night separately....

you can go carb free on Monday morning, then carb free Tuesday lunchtime, then Wednesday dinner......you can get a good picture of what is happening then...

I tried it for 2 days but felt so rubbish that I gave up. I think that after 43 years of carb eating my poor body was in shock. However I learned enough from it to change my dose and now my BG is much better. Smile

2 days carb free, that's madness........you would almost certainly be producing some ketones after that long.....

I dont even think pumpers would go that long when basal testing....

I know - it definitely wasn't one of my better decisions. Not sure what I was thinking. Confused
