I had a leaflet I received with my needles for the bayer contour usb meter (now the older meter) but it was a few months back and I'm sure at the time it was free not half price, I certainly don't remember having to pay.

I think the bayer contour usb meter (older one) is fab. To look at it looks like an mp3 player is very discreet when you're out anywhere. You can download the software from the bayer website then plug your meter in and away you go with being able to see graphs etc.

Re the bayer new contour next usb blood glucose meter I contacted bayer, explained I've got the older meter and they've upgraded me to the new meter foc. The added features on it are that as well as it storing your test results you now have the option to store insulin doses and carbs. I can't use mine just yet though because I've still got 150 test strips for the old meter to use up then when I've finished these I can then order on my repeat prescription the contour next strips.

Hope some of this helps

I would never pay for a meter! All meter companies make their money on the test strips. If you contact your DAFNE educator or local diabetes team they may well have a meter they can give you. If not contact Bayer and say you are interested in their meter, they are likely to offer you one free. It's to their advantage since if you start using the meter you will be using a lot of strips and thus making them money.

I got a free one too. I like the meter because it has a colour screen, a nice case, coloured jabbers and because it looks cool. I know these factors aren't important to most people but when you really don't want to do yet another test (but you know you have to), having attractive kit actually makes me want to do the test. For this reason I use it as a "treat" tester instead of an everyday tester because I don't want the novelty to wear off. I use several other meters too.

I haven't tried using the other functions of it yet. Hope this helps a little.

I was given one of these meters on my Dafne course last week. so far I love it. I have only used it for a few days but have enjoyed playing with comunicating with my computer. It is small, discrete, and you can add stuff onto it. Unfortunately, you cannot add BGs that have not been recorded on this monitor but you can add carbs and insulin data. I like it because it is small and doesn't take up all the room in your handbag - or whatever - and looks like a memory stick. I like the finger pricker in that you don't have to touch the lance to eject it. Get in touch with your local dafne rep. Why pay for it if I didn't have to. Hope this is helpful. Smile
