Hi.

My friends have asked me out to a Chinese restaurant this coming Friday, however, I haven't been to one for a long time, and definitely not since attending a DAFNE course some 4-5 years ago! Here's my problem - rice! I always have a large drop in BG after eating it at home (even if I delay my QA insulin), and then hypers later. I understand the reasons why. The QA profile doesn't match the absorption of the rice because it's a low GI food. I've tried split doses, but to no avail. To complicate matters, I normally eat about 5:30pm, but won't be eating until 8pm. Furthermore, I guess the portions will be large, and someone else is paying so I don't want to waste it either.

My QA insulin is Humalog, and I have Levemir twice a day (8:30am and 10pm).

Has anyone got any ideas? Should I choose foods without rice? If so, which ones?

By the way, I can't eat anything with seafood in it either!

Thanks for any advice you can give!

Simon.

Thanks for your comments!

Perhaps in my thread I've come across a little formal! I understand that the idea of DAFNE is to have to flexibility, so that life with diabetes becomes less of a challenge, and I'm really grateful for that. I'm definitely looking forward to going out, but the point I was trying to make is that I'm quite sensitive to the way the insulin works, and large variations in my BG can make me feel confused and withdrawn. So all I was really asking for are some tips as to what I can eat so that it doesn't spoil my evening out. Very Happy

Simon.

What about noodles, like a chow mein, obviously similar in consistency, but may absorb differently than rice...........

Its a hard one to recommend dishes that come without rice..........I suppose you can just not get any if it really bothers you..........

Good luck when it comes and enjoy........
