I couldn't quote anything, but I believe steroids do increase blood sugar levels, the science is unknown to me though..............

When bood sugars get out of control, the best thing to do it start from the beginning again, so that means background insulin testing, starting with over night..............

Have no QA or carbs before bed and record your before bed and breakfast readings for a few days, adjust if needed, when satisfied move to the daytime dose.................

Only then can you move to the QA:CP ratios........................

As I said, I think I have heard steroids do affect the blood sugar levels, for how long is unknown............might be worth seeking advice from a consultant regarding your steroid and what effects it might have and for how long.............

In the short term, the only solution for higher BG is to increase your insulin amounts.................

If you need any help with that dont hesitate to ask any questions you might have.............. Wink

Yeah, although there may be more going on, like dawn phenomenon, the first thing to do is get your evening BI dose up, so as to get that morning reading down..................

At least to as far as it can go without going low overnight..............

After that, you can then think tactics if the dawn phenomenon is having an affect.............

Look forward to hearing your results........... Cool

I noticed that Marke, in one of the other recent threads, mentioned insulin resistance when steroids have been used. So he may have had a similar experience. Suggest you make your BI changes in a progressive way allowing perhaps 3 days between alterations - gives time for it to work through your system.
Stick with it Smile

Hi, just spotted this thread sorry. Yes steroids DO cause insulin restistance which obviously raises your BG. They should have explained this to you when you had the treatment if they knew you were a diabetic. My case was slightly different in that I had to take the steriods over a period of months, it is very frustrating since they don't have a linear effect on your BG. By this I mean the more CP's you eat the bigger the effect that the steriods seem to have.
I agree you should speak to an expert on this , there are a number of types of steroid and the effects of each type may be different. However a consultant should know exactly what effect you should expect, even a GP should know the basics ( although mine did not apparently ). I would guess the injection you had IS having an effect and you will
need assistance when the effect of the steroids wear off since your insulin requirements will drop back down and you will need to adjust for this as well.
