Hi,

I'm looking for a DAFNE hospital near me in Isleworth. Can anyone tell me where my nearest one is. According to the DAFNE website Central Middlesex is my nearest but they're only taking people from the Brent area. My doctors are next to useless. They had never heard of DAFNE. I need to see someone that knows what I'm talking about. Having to explain why I'm injecting every time I eat is getting very tedious. Am I the only DAFNE grad in Isleworth?

Hey, and welcome to the site.........

Unfortunately you are not a DAFNE grad just yet, as you haven't actually completed the course yet............ Wink ...........but hopefully soon enough......

Surely your doctors at the clinic, who presumably put you on the insulin regime you are on now are aware of carb counting at least......?

What do you mean you have to explain every time you inject.........? If you are on MDI, a quick and slow acting insulin, then this is what these insulin's exist for.......

Keep searching for other possible locations to do the course, its worth while, even if you need to travel/stay over.......

Hopefully some of the admin folk or HCPs may be able to direct you to a more reliable source of information.....

Bournemouth Diabetes and Endocrine Center offer a similar carb counting/dose adjustment course online, which you could attempt in the mean time..........I have heard it is really good..............it obviously lacks the physical contact with other diabetics but is worth a go.........

Actually I did the course about 6 years ago whilst I was living in Leicester. I now live in London and the last doctors I have enrolled with I have had to explain what DAFNE is. I travel around alot and some docs have heard of it, some are very informed and some have never heard of it and they seem completely bemused by the fact that I inject every time I eat. They seem pre programmed to ask how much of the humalog do you inject a day. I tell them it depends how much I eat and they look at me like just dropped the C bomb. They want me to go to their in house diabetic clinic but if you have to explain the basics every time you see them, what's the point. Need to find somewhere with a DAFNE nurse.

I see..................

It must of been even more scarce back 6 years ago.......................so are you totally clued up with it all then...............

I would tempted to move clinic if you feel they are asking you stupid questions each time you visit...............

what insulin's are you on? Do you explain to them about ratios and how you actually arrive at your doses, I would expect the consultants and nurses to be able to pick it up relatively easy..............

Hi,

I used to live in Hounslow which as you're probably already aware is next to Isleworth. I did my DAFNE course in 2004 at Central Middx hospital. I continue to receive my diabetes care from Central Middx because they knew all about DAFNE. It might be worth contacting Central Middx to see if you can attend some of the sessions they run.

It's fairly easy to get to from Isleworth. You can catch the overground to Clapham Junction and then from there to Willesden Junction. It's well worth the journey in my opinon.

Hope that helps!
