Dextrose - 3 tablets usually does the trick, then followed by a piece of fruit or handful of sultanas

I use glugo tabs post DAFNE.

I know that each tab will quickly raise my blood sugar by about 1 unit, so I can judge how many tabs I need. I isn't perfect, and I am sure that other methods wouls work just as well, but I have bought a number of the small containers - containing 10 tabs, so what ever coat/jacket etc I have there is a container in it, and I get a large container (approx 50 tabs) from my chemist whenever I get my repeat. It is a simple task of refilling the smaller containers as and when they need replenishing.

It works for me

I used to use jelly babies but now use cheap energy drinks, the still versions............

As I am trying to watch my calorie intake jelly babies were a bit too much calorie for me, although very effective........

As long as its quick acting sugar and depending on the hypo, between 15 - 30 g of CHO your laughing.......

I have a preference towards wine gums (or as I've called them in a hypo state, "gine wums") because I found that jelly babies regularly would come out of my bag all smashed up... crumbs are not much good for someone with a wobble going on. Sad

Have also used those 4g glucotabs but I haven't used those in ages... and when I'm absolutely desperate, I go to the traditional hardstuff: teaspoon o' sugar!

After the above options, I aim to have something slow releasing, such as biscuit, fruit biscuit thing or bit of chocolate... but with DAFNE rules, it really does depend more on the time of the hypo (eg, if right before a meal, I only have the quick acting CPs, etc).

It depends where I am and how severe the hypo is. If I'm out and about, I'll have 4 Dextro tablets (Tropical flavour is my preference), which seem to take 25 minutes to become effective and deliver 10 carbs. I always carry a plastic bag of these loose in my pocket. And then, if necessary, I'll have follow this up with 4 more or a Jaffacake or biscuit.
At home, I'll have a 150ml can of plain Coke, which seems to become effective quicker, and then test after half an hour and have the Dextro tablets if necessary.

Like you Alan my favourite is Dextro tablets. Not keen on the Blackcurrant ones though!
14 in a packet and after years of practice, I am good at splitting a packet into three - 5, 4 and 5.
5s go in the pocket and then at least one end of the pack is protected from going crispy! or blackened! (by my scruffy paws). 3 tablets for a regular hypo at 3.5 or so......but 5 if I've hit the wall. Kick in for me, in 15 minutes. Goes to show how we are all different.
The 4 bit from the middle of the pack normally stays in the house giving quick access when needed. I've always tried to follow up with some slower CHO though.
JWO loved your comment. When I was a child I loved Maynards wine gums.....only available in the North East I think. Used to eat them on a Sunday when my Dad would buy me a ¼ pound and I would eat the lot by 4 o'clock!
Happy memories!

It's funny you say that - because anything I use as hypo treatment I often find that I don't see it as a treat anymore - it's something that is for hypos only in my head. I don't think I could enough a whole bag all in one go, especially not now. Laughing I cannot remember what I was like for sweets before I was diagnosed at the age of 5... I know I do have me treats though. I aim to have them with meals so I avoid snacking! ;)

Always a small carton of orange juice for me (you know those little ones with the straws) - easy to get down you and quick to act!
