I need help to lose weight too, but my problem I believe is activity levels as opposed to calories.........

But if your active then calorie counting may help you along...........

As far as I believe, carbohydrate, protein and fat all contain the calories that go in our bodies.

So, 1 gram of carbs has 4 calories, 1 gram of protein also has 4 calories, and 1 gram of fat has 9 calories, so although the packaging will give you the total that gives an idea of the amounts.

I couldn't comment on weight watchers, but definitely counting your intake and then reducing it to the level or below for someone your age, sex and height is worth a go.....

How much activity are you doing?

I only started back at the gym last Monday and made it every night (5 days) plan to do the same to get back into routine. Got my Hba1c last Thurs - 9.5% 3 months ago I was 8.4%!!! Had 3 lazy months of no excercise, eating crap. I feel disappointed in myself but I no that I'll get that figure down it's just going to be hard work. The gym instructor said I could loose 1lb per week if i stuck to a 2000 calorie diet and 5 days excercise Shocked
I'm also getting myself in shape for pregnancy so I need to loose those lbs and get that figure down, aiming for December......a big challenge!!

I think i need to get my head around calories and carbs and stick to the excercise......but all suggestions welcome Smile

I joined weightwatchers last night with the aim to loose weight and make myself count my carbs (I haven't been focusing on this recently and I feel sluggish because my sugar levels are not great)! I figured if I can count points to loose weight I can count carbs for my diabetes!!

Good luck!!

I'd be interested to know how you got on at weightwatchers Jess, and if it would benefit a type 1. Carb counting at first is daunting but once you get the hang of it it becomes second nature!

Good luck Laughing

Does the level of your BGs not effect your decision to exercise, it does with me.........

I would prefer not to eat anything extra just so I can exercise, and so the window of opportunity to work out is slim, mainly after my dinner in the evening...................

How do the rest of you do things...... Question

if I have a BG of around 6-7 I would eat extra carbs and take a swig of lucozade, I tend to find by the time I finish (1hour later) I have dropped again. If I have a high BG of around 13 then I do my workout and find I drop an hour later.

Sometimes I can go to bed with a reading of 14 I don't take extra CPs but climb overnight so my morning BG would be around 19, othertimes I take a correction does and can be in target or hypo. It's never the same but I need to be in a routine for it to average out and it's playing the game which can be very annoying especially when trying to have tight control!! Smile

Thats why for me my exercise needs to be at the same time, when I have insulin on board to deal with the extra glucose..............

Do you find yourself ever going high after it? When do you exercise.....?

I went on a Dafne course at the end of Feb and started on Weight Watchers at the same time. I have lost one and a half stone up to now so feel that looking after my blood sugars better and needing less insulin and been weighed each week has been a great help. I have been a Diabetic for 58 years but still need help now and then.
