Do any of the dieticians, nurses etc in the online team know if the (great) online BG Diary can be used in review sessions at clinic? I think it would be great if my specialist dietician at clinic could look through this online diary and discuss it with me.
Also what about the same person viewing it, with permission, when I'm not there - say in response to a problem I've telephoned about?

I'm new(today) to this so don't have many results (or red BGs) to show, but it's so easy I can see it being very useful

Hi John,

We don't actually have any Dieticians/Nurses in the online team per se - myself and MarkE are both DAFNE Graduates and take care of the running and development of the site. We also have support from DAFNE Central up in Northumbria. I agree that it would be nice to share your diary with dieticians/nurses at reviews. There are a number options here:

1. There is already a print layout defined so you can print out your results and take them on paper. See the "Printable view of currently displayed results" link above the diary display on this site.
2. We can set it up so you can allow specific users to view your diary. You would have to know the username/email of your HCP to do this.
3. You could share the diary via the foirums for all users to see and comment on, in a similar way to you do don the actual course using the overhead projector.

Options 2 and 3 don't exist yet so we'd have to assess feasibility/time needed to do them if there was enough demand. One question to the community though: Do HCP's have internet access during reviews/clinics?

EDIT: Also, would HCPs be comfortable doing something like this?

Thanks,

Simon

Thanks Simon
Printing out goes against saving the planet.
3. is definitely a big no, it's just too private. I'll talk to my dietician about her access at the next clinic.
She does have very sophisticated computer access so I'd guess it's on the interweb as well.
John
Ps what is HCP and have I got one?

Hi John,

Agree with your points above. It would be good to get a view from your dietician of whether or not they could access such a feature.

HCP = Healthcare Professional, a catch-all term for DAFNE Doctors, Specialist Nurses and Dieticians (apologies if I've missed anyone out of that list). If you look to the left of the forums you can see whether a user is a HCP, or in your case, a DAFNE Graduate.

Thanks,

Simon

On teh DAFNE course it was particularly helpful having the discussions about readings one by one, as you got to hear other people's ideas wbout what you should do. Simon you say that the option of sharing your diary with nominated users is not yet available. To have this facility would be very helpful if it were posible to set up.

Hi Sue,

This functionality is now available, see my posts on this forum thread for more information on how to do it.

Thanks,

Simon

Hello all..

One additional thought re getting a paperless diary to others to view.

a- set up & open an empty Word document

b- call up the dafne printable diary format to screen

c- Use CNTRL_A to highlight all the diary then Cntr_C to Copy it

d- go to the open Word document and Cntrl_V to paste the diary to this document.

e- Save the document

f- Create mail to the intended recipient and attach the diary document and send.

A bit convoluted perhaps but can be emailed to anyone, whether or not they are registered on Dafne online, just as long as you have their email!

Hope this helps, John.

Hi All ..

As I am off for a dafne review in a couple of week I emailed my hcp, asking if she could register on DO and she could then see my Diary before the review.

Unfortunately they are short staffed and time pressure would prevent any pre-review activity of several a4 pages of diary data.

This seemed a fair point in the circumstances, so how about making available on DO a simple table summary for hcps use covering (say), for various periods (eg 1 week, 1 month ..)

Average BGs' at various time (ie lunch, bed etc)
Average QA's & BI Dosages
Ratios used and Comments made
No of Hypos, No of high rdgs

These are just the things that come to mind immediately but if we had an hcp on DO who could specify what they really would like to see in such a summary prior to Review this could be a starting point.

The summary might cause the hcp then to request the full diary for check before the Review, hopefully leading to better outcomes!

Comments please to the forum.. and let's hope Simon has yet another pair of hands in addition to the half dozen he already seems to have!

John

Hi John

I'm sure that a summary (whether pre or at a review) would be useful. My concern would be that given the pressures that many, if not most, hcps are under, a summary that appears to show that all is well might hide underlying patterns that are potentially problematic, so it would be really important to look at the diaries in full at the review. Maybe if your hcp signed up to DO you could look at your on-line diary and all the accompanying graphs and tables while you are with her? I always spend time before my review identifying things that I think are going OK, things that I'm concerned about or any unexplained/strange results - I write them down (terrible memory) for discussion with my hcp.

Hi Guys,

This certainly sounds like something that would be useful. Echoing what Stew said, we need to ensure that the data we present isn't too high-level and may disguise/ignore any underlying problems. It would be useful to get some feedback from the DAFNE HCPs on what they think would be valuable in a 1-page summary.

We could certainly do something where you had a week-by-week or month-by-month summary - just need to know what goes in there!

Cheers,

Simon
