Hi guys just came across your discussion about giving blood I think the reason the blood transfusion service don't allow type 1 s to donate blood is that if you reduced your circulating blood volume you would suddenly become more sensitive to the insulin you already have on board, making you more likely to hypo in the time after you donate! You would also probably require to reduce your insulin doses in the days following your donation! It's strictly for our own benefit!!!!! And of course there's a legal issue in case you donate blood then hypo in the street and come to some harm then sue them!!! X

I was told the same thing here in Australia. They would not accept my donation in case I had a hypo. A bit strange considering the Red Cross seems desperate for blood, but it's their right to refuse
