About the DAFNE Graduate Contact Group (DGCG)

The National DAFNE Programme operates out of Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. They are responsible for the development and update of the DAFNE courses and also the training programmes for healthcare professionals (HCPs) on how to deliver the courses in their service. They also plan and deliver all of the HCP training and participate in research to continually improve the DAFNE programme.

The national programme is overseen by the National DAFNE Executive Board comprising of DAFNE educators, doctors, graduates, senior members of the national programme operational team and key stakeholders such as Diabetes UK and the JDRF. It is so important to us that we have graduate voices on the Executive board. The DAFNE graduate, doctor and educator seats on the board are filled by election, with each DAFNE centre being able to vote.

The Executive board is responsible for setting the strategy of the national programme and overseeing the delivery of this. The national DAFNE programme does not have any means to directly contact graduates, other than indirectly through the diabetes teams that deliver the DAFNE courses. This can be challenging for diabetes teams due to limited resources.

There may be occasions when we need to directly contact DAFNE graduates, for example

  • To make graduates aware of vacant graduate seats on the board and inviting them to nominate themselves for election
  • If we require graduate input for DAFNE research or audit projects
  • If we need to gain specific feedback from graduates, relating to their DAFNE experiences

The DAFNE Graduate Contact Group (DGCG) provides the national programme with the means to contact graduates through the dafneonline.co.uk website. The dafneonline.co.uk website was developed and is run by a group of DAFNE graduates and is completely independent of the national DAFNE programme.

Graduates joining dafneonline.co.uk as a DAFNE graduate will be able to opt in to joining the DGCG. Joining the DGCG means that you are consenting to the administrators of dafneonline.co.uk making direct contact with you on occasion, on behalf of the national DAFNE programme. The dafneonline.co.uk admin team will not share your email with the national DAFNE programme, or anyone else.

Contact from the national programme will be sporadic and infrequent, we may not have the need to contact you for several years, and there may occasion when we will contact you several times in the year.

Joining the DGCG is completely voluntary and you are able to opt out at any time

Please take the time to opt-in for this communication so that the national DAFNE programme can continue to represent the views of DAFNE graduates - Thank you.
