Hi!
I'm Sam from Glasgow, just finished the DAFNE course a couple of weeks ago and following the rules like mad however doesn't seem to be doing anything anytime soon. I know it doesn't happen overnight but I just want to have better control. New to this, new to forums so I hope there are plenty people that will be able to help and guide me through this. I'm 25 been diagnosed since Jan 2008 and a female....Samantha is too formal! I've had a quick gander through the site and already there have been a lot of questions answered for me so thanks all. I can see this is going to be addictive so I'm going to retire to bed. Will be posting a lot more over the weekend!!

hi Sam Smile
me too have not long completed DAFNE cool course Smile i too have read through loads on here and have found the site useful, been type 1 since feb 95 and have learned loads on the course, had a good laugh people easy to talk to, found loads out that i never even knew before that sounds dumb seeing im type 1 for many years but still learning, im having loads of probs at the moment with bg's etc and am working too hard and currently on 7 -10 injections daily as always correcting myself but my averages are cool bout 8.5 to 10 each month but god i had to work hard to get this like it is now, but am currently waiting an appointment as i may be accepted for the pump phew.... no more 9 jabs daily can't wait but hey hope you enjoy the site.

Hi Steve - wow 7-10 injections that is a lot. I too correcting often. I've increased both my BI 2 units and see how I go with that, not keen to up my ratios when I'm already on 2:1. Going to get back into a routine of excercise so again don't want to make too many adjustments just now cos i'm hoping they will come down if I stick to a routine. So does the amount of injections qualify you getting a pump? What are the benefits to getting one? Here in Glasgow there is only so much funding so I'm wondering what you require in order to get one. Curious more than anything. I'm amazed at the amount of people that have type 1 and on this site share the same issues it's really comforting to know you're not alone. I had emailed the group I did the course with and from the responses I got some are doiny really well and others struggiling not haveing the HC professionals there to guide, I'll need to pass the message on and get them on here for guidence. I like the BG diary and graphs really good to see your patterns.

mostly my injections DON'T absorb therefore im always correcting on that issue grrrrrrrr painin the butt but also my injections are stinging all the time, seeing i have a high pain thresshold but these injections are stinging all the time aswell as bruising and coming up in balls right next to the site where i have just injected Sad plus with depression this is getting me down also, but on the good news im getting put forward for a pump have to see my diabetic doctor on 16th oct phewwwww can't wait, don't know weather it's down to smoking loads but hey im trying my best to keep good control, like for instance im having roughly 18 carbs for breakfast and my BG is 9 so i will take 2:1 ratio and within 1-2 hours later im like in the 20BG range sometimes higher so thats a bad start to my day and feel like poo for the rest of it, im not one to open up to people but since my DAFNE course i have learnt to open up more as i have always kept stuff like this to myself for many years and i must keep it up and not go it alone again, easier said that done though, but thanks for the reply
take care

Mmm sounds like you're having a time of it. Well if you think the pump will be better then go for it, reading on the site it seems the folk who do have one have never looked back. You've prob already been told this but you should get off the fags!! I used to smoke and when I was first diagnosed it took me a few months to come off them it was hard being told not to eat sugary stuff, inject and stop smoking but I have to say I did notice a difference in my BG. It's easier said than dine though so I won't lecture you lol!!
Anyway 18CPs for your breakfast - what are you eating? I would have about 15CPs max for dinner cos it would be 30 units QA and even at that I feel is a lot! I know it's hard cutting back in CPs cos you feel you need to eat them but the benefits of cutting back are amazing as you will know from doing the course. I have just stuffed my face with a chinese for a treat, had a hypo before hand so I'll probably be chasing my BG for the rest of the night cos I don't know how many CPs are in a chicken ball!! Hope you don't think I've been a lecturer it is good to talk and share!!
